Sugel Michelen is pastor of the Iglesia Bautista de Jesucristo (IBJ) in the Dominican Republic. He is the author of several books, including his most recent book: “Before God and on behalf of God” (Physical Book | Kindle Version) which deals with expository preaching. It is not enough to say that we are saved by grace alone and through faith alone; for that faith would be utterly useless, unless it rests on the right Object. So we should rather say that we are saved by grace alone, through Christ alone, through faith alone.

500 years ago the reformers raised the banner of: Scripture alone, grace alone, faith alone, Christ alone and soli Deo gloria. Today, 500 years later, we need to uphold those same principles that sum up the essence of Christianity. A faulty understanding of any of these aspects of biblical doctrine will have serious consequences in the life of the individual believer and in the ministry of the church.

To have everything without having Christ is to have a miserable existence here and now, and a total loss when you cross the line that separates time from eternity; To have Christ is to have everything, even if you have nothing else.

To say: I am only a Christian is ambiguous today, because few understand what the gospel of Jesus Christ is. So it doesn’t offend me to be called a Calvinist.

In a society that has embraced relativism as a dogma and pragmatism as a way of life, it should not surprise us that the man who destroys all distinctions between good and bad, between fair and unfair, is exalted at the same time as those who have the courage to raise their voices in favor of absolute truth and morality are belittled and mocked.

When a person frequently exposes himself to the study of Scripture, and does not obey it, finally the same scripture ends up hardening him. Hebrews 4:12 says that she is a two-edged sword. He cuts some for obedience and others for condemnation. ❞
