Invoking the blood of Christ: Another unbiblical practice | restored

New trends are added to our churches as the years go by, things that were never really recorded in the early church or church history, but have been picked up a hundred years or less ago and we see many, many churches using these new methods as if they were biblical In this article I am going to answer the question: Is it biblical to invoke the blood of Christ?

I assure you that you have never read in the scriptures this of invoking the blood of ChristHowever, today this seems normal in many churches. We see people invoke blood on the car, on the house, on their children and even on the dog if possible, but we have never seen this in the Scriptures. I go back and reiterate: There are some passages Biblical that some leaders use to support this doctrine of invoking the blood of Christ, the most used among them is the one we find in the book of Exodus:

And they will take some of the blood, and they will put it on the two posts and on the lintel of the houses where they will eat it. (Exodus 12:7)

They use this verse as a shield to say that what they are doing is biblical, what a great decontextualization they do to support a meaningless doctrine. In the old testament God used symbolic things for the people of Israel, and we cannot use them to bring new doctrines to today. The apostlesnor any man in the Bible ever invoked the blood of Christthe Bible He never teaches us such a thing.

What is the use of the blood of Christ according to the Bible? We can easily answer this question:

but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:7)

The blood of Christ is only good for one thing:“cleanse from all sin”. It is an offense to go around invoking the blood of Christ on our material belongings, as if this were a spell or something similar. Something very important that we must know is that invoking the blood of Christ comes from the Catholic Church and it is a custom that the Christian Church has taken from the Catholic people. The big problem is when we take something that some leader said and we accept it without first judging it through the Bible. Do you believe that invoking the blood of Christ is biblical? Check the history of the church and see if this was ever done or even look in the Bible and you will realize that this is a great fallacy.

We sometimes criticize the Catholic Church for all its strange rites, yet we have not realized that we have adopted some for our churches. Perhaps some of you have invoked the blood of Christ and it has worked for you, but the method has not been the correct one, but because of his great mercy, God does kindness to us, but that does not mean that what we did is biblical.

Another widely used text or the most used is Revelation 12:

10 Then I heard a great voice in heaven, which said: Now has come the salvation, the power, and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ; because he has been thrown out the accuser of our brothers, the one who accused them before our God day and night.

11 And they have overcome him through the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony, and despised their lives to death.

This is the part they take from the verse: “And they have overcome him through the blood of the Lamb.” They use it to say that we can invoke that blood, however, what Juan means is not that. Let’s see, let’s go to another version so that we understand it a little better:

11 And they have overcome him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, because they did not love their lives to death. (RV2015)

“Because of the blood of the Lamb.” I ask, what has the blood of Christ shed on the cross done for us? There is something very important that Pablo He says and answers this question:

1 Corinthians 15:

55 Where is your sting, oh death? Where, oh grave, your victory?

56 For the sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

57 But thanks be to God, who gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

This means that the blood of Christ has given us the victory and that is why John says in Revelation “And they have overcome him because of the blood of the Lamb” because that blood gave us the victory we needed and we do not have to walk as frank shooters invoking blood on the demons, the car, the family and even the computer. Let’s get out of this mistake, the Bible does not teach that the blood of Christ is invoked.

Let’s stop minimizing the Blood of the Lamb and give it the value it really has: cleansing from all sin, an act that was consummated more than two thousand years ago on the cross of Calvary.
