Now let’s see what the Blood of Christ means in the old and in the new testament.
Blood of Christ in the old testament
The word ‘blood‘ is used a lot in the Bible. The Old Testament often speaks of the purifying power of blood during sacrifices. This can be read at Leviticus 17:11 to understand why people believed in sacrifices. What happened to those who did not make regular sacrifices in Old Testament times? Blood of Christ in the new testament
But in the New Testament we read how the Blood of Christ represents the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. Read Romans 3:21-26. Let’s analyze the meaning of verse 25 in his personal life.

The Blood of Christ, Lamb of God, is, in a way, a sign of great fragility. God entered our world in the form of a human being. The idea of vaccination can help us here. Just as a small amount of vaccine gives our body the ability to resist disease, the Blood of Christ has somehow ‘immunized’ us. His blood has the power to protect us from our sins that would otherwise separate us from God.
As we drink the wine during the Lord’s Supper, it can help us remember that this wine is his blood prepared for us, his life lived for us and now you can share with him. We are tired, frustrated, tempted, and abandoned; tomorrow we may feel tired, frustrated, tempted, or abandoned. If so, we can use your strength and share your spirit. He conquered the world for us.
The power and importance in The Blood of Christ
Blood is all over the Scriptures, but what does The Blood of Christ mean to us?
- Behold, when we enter the land, you will tie this line of scarlet thread on the window through which you made us descend… and whoever is with you in the house, his blood will be on our head, if there is any hand. about him Joshua 2: 18-19.
Rahab, the woman spoken of in this passage, was a harlot in the city of Jericho. When the Israelites came to possess the land, her city was destined for destruction, and she along with it. But she was delivered, and her life was transformed, simply by tying a scarlet cord to her window.
This cord represented the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ and pointed to the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. In fact, the entire Bible is about Jesus Christ and his redemption by blood, and you will find this scarlet thread throughout the Word of God.
The prophecy of the Blood of Christ
From the very beginning of human history, it is revealed. When Adam and Eve sinned, God shed innocent blood to make them clothes from animal skins (Genesis 3:21). This is a picture of the covering of justice that we received when the Lord Jesus Christ died for us.
In Genesis four we read that Adam and Eve had two sons, Cain and Abel. They instinctively wanted to worship God. Cain sacrificed the fruit of the ground. Abel had already learned that God required blood, so he brought a lamb. God accepted the blood of Abel’s lamb, but did not accept Cain’s offering. Why?
- Because “without bloodshed there is no remission of sins” (Hebrews 9:22).
And God told Abraham to sacrifice his long-awaited son Isaac (Genesis 22). Just before Abraham plunged the dagger into the trembling heart of his son, an angel stopped him. Abraham saw a ram caught in a thicket. Isaac was released, but in his place the blood of an innocent animal was shed.
So, God wanted to free his people from slavery in the land of Egypt. In the night of the EasterGod instructed each house to sacrifice a lamb and put the blood on their doorstep.
- God said in Exodus 12:13: “When I see the blood, I’ll pass on you.”
And in the tabernacle and later in the temple, thousands and thousands of sheep, oxen, and turtledoves were killed and their blood shed as a sacrifice for sin.
And finally, the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross. His death was the fulfillment of all the prophecies and promises. Revelation 13:8 it proclaims that he was slain before the foundation of the world. He came to die; He planned to die; He lived to die; and he was born to die.
The power of the Blood of Christ
- His blood redeems us. There was a price against us that we could not pay, but The Blood of Christ redeemed us.
- 1 Peter 1:18-19It says: “Because you know that you were not redeemed with corruptible things… but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without blemish.”
- His blood brings us into communion with God. According to Ephesians 2:13,
- “But now in Christ Jesus, you who were once far off have been brought near by the Blood of Christ.” Without the Blood of Christ, man is very far from God.
- His blood makes peace with God. Man, by nature, is at war with God; and we can only approach God on his peace terms: blood atonement.
- The Bible says in Colossians 1:20“And having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things to himself…”
- His clean blood. It not only removes the penalty of sin, it also removes pollution. I don’t care what sin you have committed.
- “The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1:7).
- His blood gives you power over the devil. It is the blood that Satan fears.
- Revelation 12:11It says, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb…” The devil doesn’t want you to learn about blood. He hates it!
Before this planet reached space, God had determined in His heart that He would send His Son to die on the cross. How wonderful it is to trace the scarlet thread of The Blood of Christ woven throughout the Bible! How much more wonderful to experience his redemption personally. Praise God for the blood of his Lamb!
The Blood of Christ in the New Testament
There are many passages that refer to blood in the New Testament and a review of each of those passages reveals that, in general, when we see blood, it means death.
- For example, In Matthew 23:30,31 Jesus told the scribes and Pharisees that they were hypocrites because they say “if we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. Therefore, you are witnesses before yourselves that you are children of those who killed the prophets.
- In Matthew 26: 26-28, we read that while they were eating, “Jesus took bread, blessed it, broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said: Take, eat; this is my body. And taking the cup, and having given thanks, he gave it to her, saying, Drink from it, all of you; For this is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for the remission of sins.”
Pilate is recorded as having washed his hands and said:
- “I am innocent of the blood of this righteous man”
Referring to the fact that he was not responsible for the death of Christ. Then all the people answered Pilate:
- “His blood be on us and on our children”
Referring to their joyful assumption of responsibility for the death of Christ (Matthew 27: 24,25). These are just a few examples of how blood refers to death in the New Testament.
The blood of Jesus Christ bought our redemption

- Ephesians 1:7tells us: “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of his grace.”
- Romans 5:9informs us, “Much more then, being now justified by his blood, shall we be saved from wrath through him.”
- I John 1:7 It says: “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.”

Paul teaches that we share with other believers the memory of Christ’s death until He comes for us when we partake of communion (I Cor. 11:23-25). It was the shed blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, his death, that saved us from sin and gave us eternal life with Him.
The blood of Jesus Christ gives us access to God.
Second, his blood, that is, his death, has given us access to God that humanity has never had before.
- Ephesians 2: 12,13 teaches: “That at that time you were without Christ, alien to the nation of Israel, alien to the covenants of promise, without hope and without God in the world; but now in Christ Jesus you who were once far off have been brought near by the Blood of Christ.”
- Hebrews 10:19 It says: “Having, then, brothers, confidence to enter the Holy of Holies through the Blood of Christ.”
Before the death of Christ, the Gentiles had no hope of accessing God. The Jews had access, but only by and through their high priest. And he could enter the most holy place in the temple only once a year, and then with the blood of animals for the remission of sins for himself and people.
Now, by The Blood of Christ, that is, after His death, everyone, both Jews and Gentiles, can have direct access to God.
The Blood of Christ has redeemed us from sin and has given us access to God. We can thank God that we have access to Him through or by The Blood of Christ, but our prayers must be made in His Name, and not by His blood (Ephesians 5:20).
