LESSON 1 (Christology)

Introduction: Alexander the Great had in his army a soldier who was a coward, who was also called Alexander; and once the King told him: “Change your name, or behave like an Alexander!… All those who call themselves Christians must behave like soldiers of Jesus Christ: faithful to him, imitating him, obeying him, following him…
JESUS CHRIST IS GOD ALMIGHTY

Basically Christology is the part of Christian theology that devotes its study to the role played by Jesus of Nazareth (from both human and divine points of view, under the title of Christ or Messiah).

YO. PRE-EXISTENCE OF JESUS CHRIST:
A. Definition of pre-existence:
two. Real existence before visible manifestation.
3. Theologically: Time prior to the incarnation of the Word, Jn. 1:1-3.
Note: We speak before Bethlehem, before the creation of the universe, we speak of the eternity of God. What is the eternity of God? In Hebrew the term is olám, which also translates: very distant time, perpetuity, forever, remotest time or most distant time.

For example: 1 Chron. 16:36 (Tells us of the ages before creation and the last beyond our comprehension, in Gen. 1:1, the term “beginning” of the Heb. Reshit, translates: beginning, first. It connotes the beginning of a indeterminate period, represents a starting point, in this case of creation).
b. The Biblical Foundation:
Four. Jn. 6:38; 8:56-58; 17:5.
Note: These quotes clearly teach us the pre-existence and condition of Jesus before all things… Jehovah’s Witnesses teach that Christ is the archangel Michael (remember that all angels are creatures, limited, and subject to God, Jesus Christ is God the Creator together with the Father and the Holy Spirit).
c. The incarnation teaches us his existence prior to Bethlehem.
Note: The incarnation of Jesus is a passionate subject, Paul by the Spirit said: “And indisputably, great is the mystery of godliness:
God was manifest in fleshjustified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached to the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory”, let us see some biblical passages:

1. Hebrews 10:5 (The term “prepare” from Gr. katartízo also translates: make fit, complete, fully equip, condition).
two. Jn. 1:14 (The Greek text favors the translation: “and the word became flesh”, as it appears in several versions: the Jerusalem Bible, the Latin American Bible, God speaks today, Nacar-Colunga, NVI, etc).

II. DEITY OF JESUS CHRIST:

A. Definition of the term deity:
1. Possessing the divine substance or essence.
two. It is said of one who possesses the divine nature.
Note: To classify someone as God, you must gather the corresponding attributes can be summarized in two groups: Attributes general and attributes morals. God is unique, eternal, creator, immutable, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, triune, almighty, spirit, and personal.

God’s moral attributes include holiness, justice, love, and truth. The Bible teaches that God created, sustains, and sovereignly governs the visible and invisible creation.

Several important controversies include the one with the Arian son the divinity of Christ and his relationship with the Father, which led to the adoption of the Niceno-Constantinopolitan symbol (Nicene-Constantinople Creed) which affirms the divinity of Christ.

(I invite you to read: Sermons written to preach).
b. The Biblical Foundation:
two. Heb. 1: 1-8 (creator, receives worship, his word gives life and sustains creation, declared by the Father: “Eternal God”…).
3. Divine names and titles are attributed to him:
a. The Alpha and the Omega (Rev. 1:8).
b. KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS (Rev. 19:16).
d. Others such as: God and Emmanuel, Lord of glory, Son of God, Only Begotten of the Father, Son of the Most High, Lord and Savior, etc.
Four. Men and angels worship him: Apoc. 5:12-14, Phil. 2:9-11.
Note: Men and angels rejected all kinds of worship for themselves, but both in the Bible worshiped Jesus.
conclusion: Jesus Christ is God and for love one day he descended from heaven, gave his life with great pain, and today he continues to touch the hearts of men, to take them to their true place…
CHRISTOLOGY (Lesson 2)
Introduction: When the demoniac from Gadarene was freed by Jesus, and was able to assimilate what had happened, he had no other desire than to follow Jesus, not only was he grateful, he had understood that his life was now Jesus, not only did he want to follow him, he wanted to know him…
THE MINISTRY OF JESUS IN THE OT
YO. FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS:
A. Theophany: is a visible manifestation of God to human beings.

b. Angels: They are God’s creation, and diverse in function, design, and authority.

Note: We can see from Scripture angels of adoration, angels of war, messengers, etc. Basically the Bible tells us about: seraphim (their name means ardent, they are worshipers, Isaiah 6:2-3); cherubim (precede the glory of God), archangels (his name means main angel, they lead the heavenly armies), living beings (they are before the throne worshiping, Apoc. 4:6-8) and the angels (soldiers of the heavenly hosts and messengers of the Lord).

c. The Angel of Jehovah: is a visible and physical manifestation of God before men.

Note: The angel of Jehovah is a theophany, or appearance of God. Given that God the Father has not been seen by anyone (Jn. 1:18), and that it is Jesus who makes him known, we see this function from the Old Testament, for example: in Zechariah 3:1-5we see the angel of Jehovah as an advocate (intercedes) defending the high priest Joshua.

II. MANIFESTATIONS OF THE ANGEL OF JEHOVAH IN THE OT

A. For most theologians, the theophanies are appearances of Christ before Bethlehem.
b. Let’s look at some OT theophanies
Note: Let us note that vs. 2 says: “the Angel of the Lord appeared to him” and the remaining verses reveal that it was God Himself who was there.

two. Genesis 16:7-10.

Note: In this case we see the angel of Jehovah again, but here he expresses himself as God himself, since he says: “I will multiply your offspring”, an attribute that only God can exercise.

3. Judges 6:12-16.

Note: We see the angel of Jehovah speaking in the first person and with the authority of God himself.

(I invite you to read: Sermons written to preach).
conclusion: From the Old Testament we see God, seeking the salvation, victory and freedom of his people. So much so that he physically manifested himself to guide, encourage, empower and support his people and his servants.
CHRISTOLOGY (Lesson 3)
Introduction: The Bible says that “we must grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ”, and this should lead us to love God more and follow him out of gratitude, for all the things he has done for us…
THE WORD BECAME FLESH
YO. MIRACLES INVOLVED IN THE INCARNATION:
A. The union of the two natures: divine and human.
1. “Hypostatic Union”: technical term that designates the union of the two natures, divine and human, in the person of Jesus.
two. Being fully divine, he is God, and being fully human, he is man.
Note: A third nature did not originate, it is a single person: Jesus Christ, 100% God and 100% man. Therefore, he presents God before men and represents men before God, becoming our great high priest (according to the order of Melchizedek).
b. A conception without an earthly father, Luke 1:30-38.
Note: In this passage there are many important things, let’s see:

1. The conception is carried out by the union of the two seeds or seeds of the same species, this teaches us the great similarity between God and men, because we are in their image and likeness…

2. The new blood and genetic content had to be pure, perfect to redeem for eternity).
3. The seed used by God was his Word, 1 Pet. 1:23, Lk. 1:38.
Four. The environment of the conception was favored and generated by the work of the Holy Spirit and carried out by the heavenly Father.

II. THE INCARNATION WAS EXTENSIVELY PROPHESIED:

A. Gen. 3:15.

Note: Called “Protoevangelium” or first announcement of the Messiah, of the battle and final victory.
Note: God revealed the supernatural conception of the Messiah.
AND. The Lord Jesus Himself said: “Search the Scriptures… for they testify of me…” Jn. 5:39.
Note: The entire Old Testament bears witness to Christ and his work…
III. BASIC REASONS FOR THE INCARNATION:
A. prophetic fulfillment.
Note: God does not lie, in him there is no change or shadow of variation. God keeps his promises, he keeps his words.
b. For redemption of sins, Heb. 10:4-5, 10-12; 1 Pe. 1:18-20.

Note: The word redemption also translates: to rescue, to buy for a price, to go to the market, to obtain freedom. The imperfect blood of animals was a temporary and prophetic solution, as was the Levitical priesthood. Christ, perfect high priest and perfect Lamb, crosses the heavens and enters the heavenly sanctuary to redeem once and for all (the divine approval of the sacrifice or burnt offering was given by fire… At Pentecost God approved of the sacrifice of Christ…).
c. To provide an example for believers, 1 Pet. 2:21.
d To destroy the devil and his works, Heb. 2:14.
Note: Jesus faced the devil in his human condition, but without sin. A man named Adam lost the lordship of the earth, and a man named Jesus defeated the devil, took away the keys of Hades and death. God did perfect justice with man, with Satan and with himself. That is why Christ is also called the last Adam.

Christ became mortal when he became sin for us…

conclusion: It is necessary to become aware of the perfect and supernatural work of Jesus, with which he fulfilled out of love for us. His love led him to come to earth, and submit to the lowest conditions. His love led him to pay the highest price of redemption, his life in a framework of terrible pain.
