What does it mean to believe in God according to the sacred words?
The human being has always had a constant struggle; or an incessant desire to discover the truth; about his origin, his beliefs and his future; but they have not yet understood that the point of all existence and belief is God; closing their eyes to the truth. So the holy scriptures, inspired by the very word of Jehovah; He gives us an answer about the meaning of believing in him.
The old testament, you can find various stories; about characters that show us, a true meaning of what it is to believe in God. And one of them is Abraham, the Lord speaks to him, “And he believed the Lord, and it was reckoned to him for righteousness” (Genesis 15:6); Abraham’s faith is an act of true conviction and full trust in God’s promises.
In James 2:23; we can see that Abraham was recognized by God, and called his friend; forceful clarification of the importance of belief in the Lord. Also, Paul talked about faith; to attain salvation; he showed Abraham, as model and example (Romans 4).
Another character that we can talk about is called Moses; where one of the greatest tests of his faith, and belief in him; it is when the people of Israel fled from pharaoh, and his relentless army; Moses and the people found themselves in front of the Red Sea; God told him to raise his rod and extend it over the sea to divide it, Moses did it without hesitation, and believing it was so. “And Israel saw that great deed which the Lord did against the Egyptians; and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and Moses his servant” (Exodus 14:31).
This miracle increased the faith of the people of Israel; and it is something that has endured throughout its history. We can see that God showed his power before an unbelieving people; but he also taught them, that he was with them thanks to the faith of Moses. The old testament has many testimonies of faith.
Jesus helps us believe in God
From Moses onward, God used many people; to continue his work in them, being filled with power; showing the people of Israel; through miracles the existence of a living God. Coming to Jesus, author and finisher of faith, he not only spoke to the people; he also showed signs, which glorified the Father; leading many people to believe in the one who sent him.
And it’s in the new testament, where Jesus Christ teaches us; that he who believes in him, believe in the father (John 12:44); he came to the world, to make us understand that many walk in darkness, because they did not believe in God, and to be in light; you need to find him.
Jesus said in John 12:47: “I, the light, have come into the world, so that everyone who believes in me will not remain in darkness”. God commissioned his son to speak to his people; of his love, and make them understand; that they should believe in him and in his word.
Believing in God means trust
What does it mean to believe in God according to the sacred words? From Abraham to the Apostles, the Holy Words teach us; that to believe in God, is to have full confidence in him; despite any circumstance, or situation that tarnishes your happiness; he above all will fulfill his promises, and the greatest of them is salvation.
This salvation, God promised from ancient times; and for her many obtained a good report in her sight (Hebrews 11:2), and for her they died; “All these died according to faith, not having received what was promised, but looking at it from afar, and believing it, and greeting it, and confessing that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth” (Hebrews 11:13); because they longed for the heavenly.
We must believe in God; and in his promises, that alone does not give the security of a better life, and the hope of salvation. “But to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become God’s” (John 1:12)
