A. NAMES 1. oneidismos (ojneidismov”, 3680), reproach, defamation. It is used in Rom 15:3; 1Ti 2:7; Hebrews 10:33; 11.26; 13.13.¶ 2. empaigmos (ejmpaigmov”, 1701), the act of empaiktes, mockery. It is used in Heb 11:36 “vituperations” (RV, RVR, RVR77, LBA); VM, Besson and NVI translate more accurately: “derision”. Cf. empaikttes, “mockers” (2Pe 3:3; Jud_18);¶ empaigmone, “mockers” (2Pe 3:3, VHA), or “sneers” (VM); empaizo, see BURLAR, A, No. 3.
