TREASURES IN HEAVEN

Introduction: The Bible teaches us everywhere that we must turn to Christ at all times, and present our needs to him. Jesus himself said: “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you.” Then he himself invites us to cry out to God.

However, we must also ask the Lord about his will, his desires and his plans. God wants his kingdom to be established on earth, and the instruments of the Lord are ourselves. We must not only ask God, but dispose our hearts to use us in the extension of his kingdom here on earth…

It is very important to lay up treasures in heaven. Matthew 6:19-21
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up treasures in heaven, where moths and rust do not corrupt, and where thieves do not break in or steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be too.”
It is very important to take into account the context, the Master is teaching what we know as the Sermon on the Mount, and he has been talking here about the offering, prayer, fasting and continues talking about riches, anxiety, etc., and in the middle of this theme he teaches the importance of making treasures in heaven.
The text of Matthew 6:19-21 also teaches us implicitly that in heaven there are warehouses or warehouses where our treasures are stored or accumulated, and Jesus is speaking about prayer, fasting, offerings, love for enemies, etc., treasures that may not be precious on earth, but in heaven they are of the highest value.
Verse twenty-one tells us that “where our treasure is, there our heart will be also.” The word treasure here is translated from the Greek term “thesauros” which also means: deposit, chest.
That chest or deposit is filled with what we ourselves put there. What we consider most valuable will be what captivates our hearts. Where our treasure goes or where it is, our heart will go and be.
Thus, whatever our treasure is determines the beating of our heart. Our being will dream, think, act and advance in the direction of what is our treasure… it is something inevitable.
That is why Jesus’ suggestion: “Lay up treasures for yourselves in heaven” since our hearts will also be there. When it is greed or the earthly that governs our heart, our life will be in the earthly and in the material.
When our being considers that the most valuable thing is Jesus, it is his kingdom, it is his will, then our heart will be directed towards him and towards his will. The Lord wants his kingdom to be established on earth. Seeking God and seeking the extension of his kingdom is the greatest treasure.
How interesting that the Lord commanded his people to build a tabernacle in the desert, a temple in Jerusalem (which was rebuilt several times), and in Jesus’ time, in addition to the temple, there were synagogues. That is, God wants to live in and with man. Let’s make God our greatest passion.

Conclusion: The Bible clearly teaches us that God’s will is to bless his children, it is necessary to follow God’s path illuminated by his word. We must give God the first place in everything and the other things will come in addition.
