THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH

(Pastors Gonzalo and Andrea Sanabria)
God is protection and provision for his children, the Lord is the strength of the believer. The word strength in today’s text (Habakkuk 3:19), is translated from the Hebrew term Kjáil, which means: faculty or “potentiality”, ability to do or produce.

With some frequency the term appears in a martial context. It is about physical “strength”, “power” and the ability to perform well on the battlefield. “Strength” speaks to us primarily of the strength of God that comes upon the believer and enables him to win in the midst of spiritual battle, because in him we are more than winners. Let’s read this interesting study

THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH (Devotional No. 095)
“The Lord God is my strength, who makes my feet like hinds, and makes me walk on my heights.” Habakkuk 3:19.

In the OT the terms “city” and “fortress” were virtually synonymous, since cities because of enemies had to be built on strategic sites (high places) and surrounded by walls.

Our God is our strength, because he guards us and protects us from the enemy, David lived this truth when he fled from King Saul and God delivered him, and that is why he sang: “Jehovah, my rock and my castle, and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in him I will trust, my shield, and the strength of my salvation, my high refuge” (Psalm 18:2).

When we manage to place our trust in God, we adore him and continue in the midst of difficulties, and we persevere in him, God is not only a shield around us, in him we are inaccessible to the enemy.
Let us now reflect on the phrase: “he makes my feet like hinds, and makes me walk on my heights”. This allows us to conclude that with the power of God we can walk in victory and be untouchable by the enemy.

Palestinian mountain deer stand out for their grace and lightness, with their legs they have the ability to jump and run between rocky slopes (“heights”).

The male usually lives alone, while the females, together with the youngest specimens and offspring, are organized in herds that can go from 3 specimens to more than 20, because the females are the ones who finally take care of the herd, the text tells us: “God makes my feet like hinds”. We invite you to read “Armor of God”.

The hinds in the high, steep and sloped areas feel safer, since predators (bears, lions, wolves) can hardly reach them to devour their young. Thus, God gives us the ability to walk on safe paths, and of righteousness where the enemy cannot touch us or reach us.
Final reflection: Like the prophet Habakkuk, we can trust in God at all times, that trust in him produces joy in our hearts, because we know that God will sustain and strengthen us, and he will drive us to walk in victory. The Lord is my strength.
