The Helmet of Salvation – How it protects us from the enemy

The helmet of salvation It appears in the word of God as part of the armor that we must have every day when we face difficult battles to bear, because this armor will allow us to protect ourselves from the evil one and be sure that nothing will happen to us while we are under his protection. In the book of Ephesians we can see how this armor protects us:

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can stand firm against the wiles of the devil. Because we do not fight against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this century, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly regions. Therefore, take the whole armor of God, so that you can resist on the bad day, and having finished everything, stand firm. Stand firm, then, with your loins girded with truth, and clothed with the breastplate of righteousness, and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Above all, take the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the fiery darts of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (Ephesians 6:11-17)

I invite you to read:

In this passage we are described how the God’s armor which is used to protect us spiritually because our fight is not carnal but spiritual and it is something that we must keep in mind before falling into battles with people who are used by the enemy.

In this order of ideas, this armor protects us from head to toe and it is essential to know it in order to have the protection and safeguard that we need on these paths in Christ, because we will certainly be attacked by the enemy, who wants to divert us from the purpose that God has in our lives and wants to destroy God’s work here on earth.

The Helmet of Salvation – What is it?

To understand what the helmet of salvation we have to be clear about what the helmet is inside the armor of a soldier. This protects the head physically speaking.

But on the spiritual level the helmet represents coverage spiritual, which protects our mind. So when we are born again in Christ Jesus we must protect our minds from negative thoughts, from hate, from guilt that can cloud our hearts.

If we are children of God and have accepted his son as our Lord and have received the Holy Spirit, our mind belongs to him. However, we live in a world full of temptations and evil, in which our mind is constantly attacked through images, movies, social networks where we are bombarded with news of death and chaos, among many other things.

For this reason, as children of God, we must separate ourselves from the world, make our flesh die and be born again, cleaning up all contamination and leaving behind our own carnal desires. Which is a process, in which the Holy Spirit begins to work, leading us to all truth.

What does the Helm protect us from?

As mentioned above, the helmet is part of an entire armor, and it covers the entire head, leaving only the eyes and mouth free. Therefore, the helmet protects our heads where ideas and thoughts are born, which in turn generate a determined action.

Thoughts reside in our minds, ideas that arise before carrying out an action, so what we think then we do. Therefore, the head represents an important part of the body, because it gives rise to our actions and can affect the other members of the body.

On the spiritual level, the word of God tells us that Christ is the head of the church and that his children are members who carry out or make manifest the work of the Lord. That is to say, in the head the purpose is generated and then through the members it is carried out, it is concretized, it is executed.

For this reason, as children of God who make up the body of Christ, we have to take care of our heads with the helmet of salvation because we must control what enters our minds, staying away from everything that disturbs God’s purpose in our lives.

In this regard, the word exhorts us as follows: “destroying councils, and every height that stands against the knowledge of God, and taking captive every thought to the obedience of the Christ” (Colossians 1:27)

In this way, as believers we must hold on to the obedience of the wordDo not leave doors open through which the enemy can enter. So we must take care of what we see, hear, speak and feel because the moment we have been called with a purpose in Christ, we will be attacked and persecuted in the same way because the enemy does not rest and wants to destroy God’s divine plan in your life.

We have to be clear that we are in a constant spiritual fight that will only end in the final battle when Christ comes looking for his church. We cannot underestimate the enemy and you walk uncovered without the powerful armor of God, as the Bible points out:

“But we, who are of the day, let us be sober, having clothed ourselves with the breastplate of faith and love, and with the hope of salvation as a helmet” (1 Thessalonians 5:8)

In this way that when we have hope in salvation in Christ, we are on the rock and we have our foundation well established in our mind, soul and spirit, we are protected and sheltered from the enemy.

How do we put on the helmet of salvation?

The helmet of salvation it allows us to protect our identity as children of God, to be certain that once we have received, accepted and loved Christ as our one and only true Lord, we are saved, cleansed, purified and renewed. To put on this helmet of salvation we must:

1-. Meditate on the promises of God

The word of God reveals to us that we are saved by faithand this comes from listening to the word and reading the promises that he gave us, so he has already given us our provision that can sustain any crisis, problem, illness that we are going through.

That is why it is important to meditate on the promises that God has given us and that will manifest in your life according to your faith and the purpose that God has in your life.

two-. stand firm in faith

A healthy, clean mind filled with the word of God feeds the heart and fills it with faith. So when we internalize those promises that the Lord has for each of his children, our faith and hope grow in our hearts.

In this sense, to put on the helmet of salvation we have to activate our faith, strengthen ourselves in the Lord, having the certainty of his power and mercy. So by faith I put on the armor of Christ and put on the helmet in his name.

3-. take care of our actions

It is not only about taking care of our mind, it is about curbing bad actions and curbing attitudes that do not build in our lives and in the lives of others, since we are living testimony of what the Lord has done in us.

We are the light that comes to illuminate the darkness, proclaiming the good news of salvation, bringing hope in the midst of so much indolence, injustice and wickedness. As severe as the word: “to whom God wanted to make known the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Colossians 1:27)

This tells us that we have a latent hope in Christ Jesus and this is revealed in his power here on earth, where we make it known that in Christ Jesus we have the necessary protection so that nothing affects our spiritual life and therefore our salvation.

This is given by grace and not by works, as established in the following passage: “For by grace you have been saved, through faith; and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

This means that salvation is not obtained by our own strength, by our actions and works, but rather it is a gift attributed by the grace of God, and we receive it with faith in our hearts.

In this way that the helmet of salvation it is given to us to be able to testify to the good news of Christ, the gospel full of love, hope, miracles, wonders and wonders. So we are called to proclaim the gospel, wearing the helmet that protects us from any enemy attack.

What relation does a helmet have with salvation?

The helmet is a helmet that protects our head. and soldiers use it to avoid damaging and deadly blows. On a spiritual level, the helmet of salvation provides us with hope and protects the mind from anything that can mislead and destroy a Christian, such as deception or discouragement.

In this way, salvation is the hope of every child of God, who has the conviction by faith that they will soon be able to see the Lord Jesus Christ. This hope is given if we take care of our thoughts and stand firm on the rock that is Christ because to achieve salvation we have to have our minds set on him and subject our thoughts to obedience. Always considering the word and treasuring it in our hearts, in this way the Bible exhorts us as follows:

“let us be sober, having clothed ourselves with the breastplate of faith and love, and with the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God has not appointed us for wrath, but for salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Thessalonians 5:8-9)

When this passage tells us to be sober, it refers to being mentally stable, aware, with the conviction of our identity as children of God, with the certainty that in Christ Jesus we are saved because we have the helmet that protects us.

In this sense, in the book of Hebrews, hope is compared to an anchor that provides us with the necessary stability and also gives us resistance in the midst of the storm, as indicated in the word:

“Therefore, God wanting to show more abundantly to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, he swore an oath; so that for two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, those of us who have come to hold on to the hope placed before us may have a very strong consolation. Which we have as a sure and firm anchor of the soul, and which penetrates even within the veil. (Hebrews 6:17-19).

Here reference is made to hope as something latent, something that cannot be disintegrated or desecrated or contaminated, and we must keep this in mind in our lives as Christians. Similarly, the Bible emphasizes the following:

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy caused us to be reborn for a living hope, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, for an incorruptible, uncontaminated and unfading inheritance, reserved in heaven for you.” (1 Peter 1:3-4).

The resurrection of Christ is our resurrection also, since we have risen to a new life, where the old man has died to begin a birth in the Spirit.
