The Church celebrates the feast of Saint Jude Thaddeus on October 28th.
He is the saint of the afflicted and desperate.
The novena below is based and celebrated annually at the São Judas Tadeu Sanctuary, in the Jabaquara neighborhood, in São Paulo, SP.
1st Day – Saint Jude helps us understand reality.
Saint Jude Thaddeus, chosen by Christ, your deep love for Jesus made you know how to choose God’s path, in preaching the Gospel. It is necessary that we learn your virtues, follow your example as the best way to become disciples of Christ.
May we follow your example both in joy and victory, in struggle and in suffering. May we understand that all realities, pleasant or difficult, must be taken as beneficial opportunities, which will lead us to growth in faith and the ability to serve in the love of Christ.

2nd Day – Saint Jude, we want to be builders of the Kingdom.
Saint Jude Thaddeus, Apostle and builder of the Kingdom of God, who spread the Good News of Salvation in Christ, we hope that the Kingdom of God comes as soon as possible to all men, thirsty for God and his truth. Many people need to be like you were: builders of the Kingdom of God.
We wish to be apostles and propagators of the message, truth and love that Christ taught and to give Christian testimony in the environments in which we live without wavering in faith and hope. We want to bear witness, living the Gospel, through the love that commits us to Christ.

3rd Day – Saint Jude, help us to be brothers.
Saint Jude Thaddeus, Apostle of Jesus Christ and servant of men, you who saw the example of Christ, who came to serve and not to be served, pray for us so that we understand the value of disinterested and free service.
Help us to acquire the sense of giving to others, in the family, at work and in the community. You who made a total donation of your life, for the proclamation of the Gospel and for the testimony of Christ until martyrdom, inspire us with courage and wisdom, to place our energies and talents at the service of our brother.

.4th Day – Saint Jude, help us to be generous.
Saint Jude Thaddeus, Apostle always faithful to the Master’s call and obedient to the Father’s voice, nothing took you away from his plan of love. From you we want to learn to renounce any selfish plan to accept the Father’s will in everything.
Help us, Saint Jude, to be generous in following Christ, and humble in renouncing everything that takes us away from his path. Make us seek, first of all, what makes us instruments of peace and signs of Christ for our brothers.

5th Day – Saint Jude, help us to be pure of heart.
Saint Jude Thaddeus, Apostle of Jesus Christ and sign of God’s holiness, help us to achieve the grace of purity of intentions so that our interior may be a source of peace and kindness, gushing the life of God to our brothers.
May we know how to be masters of ourselves and our senses, and may we be among those who are called blessed because they are pure in heart. Conquer us a pure heart, so that through it we can see the Christ on our path and point him out to our brothers.

6th Day – Saint Jude, help us to be faithful to the Truth.
Saint Jude Thaddeus, Apostle and instrument of reconciliation, obtain for us from the Father the gift of firmness in the face of evil, selfishness and injustice. Make us always attentive to Christ’s warning: ‘Watch and pray, lest you fall into temptation’.
You who fought to overcome sin, give us a resolute spirit and the grace not to fall into temptation. And if this happens, pray for us, so that we have the courage to rise up and return to union with Christ, your and our Master.

7th Day – Saint Jude, help us to have faith.
Saint Jude Thaddeus, Apostle and man of unshakable faith, to the point of making Christ your only and absolute certainty, pray for us, so that our faith may grow and become light for our brothers. We recognize, before God, that our faith is often wavering and fragile. We know that it is a precious gift from God, which we need to accept with simplicity, cultivate through prayer and recognition of the gospel.
Help us to ask humbly, as you asked with the apostles: Lord, increase our faith!

8th Day – Saint Jude, help us to be supportive.
Saint Jude Thaddeus, Apostle and brother of the poor, today we ask you to reach us with the spirit of poverty. With Christ you proclaimed the good news to the poor and you heard from him the solemn proclamation: ‘Blessed are those who have the spirit of the poor, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven’.
Pray for us, so that the desire for profit does not dominate us and the greed to have more does not take away our ability to give ourselves to those most in need and to be in solidarity with the poor, the sick, the oppressed and the marginalized. Encouraged by the testimony of the apostles, we do not lack a sense of fraternity, to work with all our strength for the defense and promotion of the most helpless. And may we learn to recognize in each of them Christ himself, our brother and Lord!

9th Day – Saint Jude, help us to be new men.
Saint Jude Thaddeus, Apostle and Martyr, who experienced in living with Christ the infinite love of his Heart, reach us the grace of conversion, so that our hearts become similar to His.
We recognize in Jesus the man who loved the most, and a model for all good-hearted men. Through your intercession, may we be interiorly renewed, according to God’s promise to pour pure water on us and give us a new heart.
