How to Heal the Wounds of the Soul and Deal With Emotions

When a person recognizes Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior, he becomes a child of God, washed with his blood, and if he dies, he will go directly to heaven. This does not mean that the believer is totally free and that all his problems are over. There are believers who have many ties from the past, such as: soul woundsbitterness and complexes.

The first question that may come to mind is, if we are believers, why are we still dragging things from the past?

The reason for this is that what was born again was our spirit, but our soul must be renewed and transformed; therefore, it is in this area where we need liberation and inner healing.

Our Christian life is to continually overcome obstacles, overcome all circumstances and not let adversity sink us, but give place to Jesus, through the transformation and renewal that works in our understanding, let Christ be the one who solves our difficulties and neutralize their effect on our lives.

(Romans 12:2) “Do not be conformed to this century, but be transformed through the renewal of your understanding, so that you may verify what is the good will of God, acceptable and perfect.”

God considers that each of us is responsible for the reactions to any situation in which we are affected. He has given each person free will, free determination. He asks us to constantly make decisions which are right and to proceed righteously. And when we do, he helps us get ahead.

What are soul wounds?

Soul wounds are traumas that people suffer as they go through certain experiences that mark their history.

All the experiences are shaping who you are now, sometimes you will feel happy and in others deeply disappointed. In these moments that you feel a deep discouragement, disappointment and sadness; our wounds tend to open up.

The wounds of the soul are caused by damage, either by pain, betrayal, even humiliation, each pain that we suffer in our lives leaves us with deep wounds in our soul, which the enemy uses to bring us endless unclean spirits that take over our emotions.

Symptoms of a wound in the soul.

All human beings have wounds in their soul, in the course of our lives these wounds are usually formed by our experiences, what makes the difference is that some tend to get bigger wounds than others, because not all of us go through the same situations. How to know that you have very deep wounds in your soul.

  1. Sadness without an apparent cause
  2. Rejection of self and others.
  3. Low self-esteem
  4. obsessive feelings of guilt
  5. Bitterness, unjustified anger, nonconformity above all.
  6. obsessive fear

Consequences of soul wounds

When we approach Jesus we believe that everything has been resolved in our life, that we have no more problems, but sooner or later we realize that there are still certain areas of our soul that have not been regenerated and that there are negative feelings or attitudes that do not exist. They are favorable, which the enemy will use so that in the walk you have with Jesus, you cannot flow correctly. And it will begin to bring up bitter memories of the past to disturb the wounds that have not been healed within.

The wounds of the soul produce the inability to enjoy an internal life in the peace of Christ.

They produce negative emotions in the heart that manage to disturb people’s minds, bringing states of depression, anxiety, anger, a tendency to suicide, violence, rejection and very destructive thoughts.

Many believers live tied to the wounds of the soul that are dragged from the past, which does not allow them to grow spiritually, nor live a life of victory, so we see God as not fulfilling his promises described in the books of the Bible, in our lifetime; but the reason for not being fulfilled are the ties that we have in our soul.

Some people tend to keep these wounds in their hearts as scars, these are memories of the past that make them doubt the present and fear the future.

When we trustfully place ourselves in God’s hands, he begins his work in us in a progressive way to heal us.

(Philippians 1:6) “Being convinced of this, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

Gradually God brings us to perfection, it is a development that occurs slowly and progresses to perfection according to our continuous search for his presence.

How to do to heal the wounds of the soul

Firstly, to heal the wounds that are in the soul, we must know its function and what it represents in the spiritual world. We have to know that man is a spirit, that he has a soul, which is inside a physical body.

What is the soul?

It is the seat of the will, our emotions and the mind. This is the part of the believer that is not born again, but needs to be transformed and renewed.

How our soul operates.

(James 1.22) “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

The work of Christ in our spirit is perfect, when we are born again. We are children of God, therefore we go to heaven, in the book of life our name is written, but our soul is not changed. Well now, since the soul (will, emotions and mind) was not born again, a question arises and it is: What do we do with the soul?

2.- Necessary things: to be renewed and to be transformed.

(Romans 12.1-3) «So, brothers, I beg you by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, pleasing to God, which is your rational service. Do not conform to this century, but transform yourselves through the renewal of your understanding, so that you may verify what is the good will of God, pleasing and perfect. I say, then, by the grace that is given to me, to each one that is among you, that he does not have a higher concept of himself than he should have, but that he think of himself with sanity, according to the measure of faith that God distributed to each one.

For this reason, there are many believers who still have emotional wounds, bad thoughts and desires to not do God’s will; the latter is being rebellious.

Many people are often confused because they do not know if they have been born again, because they still carry things from the past, which they have not been able to overcome. And what they really need is to renew their soul, and this can be achieved through the Word of God, inner healing and deliverance.

Most of the problems of all Christians are in their soul, that is, in their will, in their emotions and in their mind.

soul characteristics

The characteristics of the soul are compared to those of the donkey. The donkey is: stubborn, disobedient, selfish, willful, egotistical, boastful, rude, insecure, rebellious, arrogant and proud.

This nature needs to be transformed and renewed. There are two types of life: The life of the Spirit, which in the original Greek is the word “zoe” and the life of the soul which is “psuke”. It is necessary that the soul be changed or we will not be able to enjoy the abundant life of God.

We have to learn to have control over the soul. The psalmist said:

(Psalms 103.1 3) «Bless the Lord, my soul, and bless all my being his holy name. Bless Jehovah, my soul, and do not forget any of his benefits. He is the one who forgives all your iniquities, the one who heals all your ailments.”

Our soul must always be under the control of the renewed spirit in Christ. That is why we must submit our will to God, and what is the will?

The will.

It is the facet of the person where the ability to decide resides. The human being is the moral representative, free to choose between good or evil.

The Will is the force that closes or opens every act of choice in our lives, including our thoughts, emotions and passions. This area works in conjunction with our mind and emotions. It is where we are given the ability to decide what we want to be and do. Being saved does not depend on God, but on the choice that man makes through the will. For man sovereignly possesses the will to choose to serve the devil or God.

For example, disobedience is an act that arises from our own will. The word of God says: “the soul that sins will surely die”.

Why is it hard for us to stop doing something if we are masters of our will?

Because our mind, which is not renewed, constantly sends thoughts to our emotions, which are not subject to spirit. So, the emotions and the mind try to seduce the human will. For this reason, man cannot stop doing things that he knows are unpleasant before God.

How do we deal with our will?

  • giving it up
  • breaking her
  • emptying it
  • filling it with the will of God

How do we surrender our will?

The word of God speaks to us of certain terms which teach us that surrendering our will is an act of choice. Scripture uses terms such as:

  1. Renounce – This word means: “to be dead to”
  2. get rid of This refers to getting rid of everything bad, such as the old man.
  3. Take off (Ephesians 4:3)
  4. Put to death (Colossians 3.5)

(Ephesians 4.22-24) «As for the past way of life, put off the old man, which is corrupted according to deceitful desires, and renew yourselves in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man, created according to God in the justice and holiness of the truth.

God does not force us to do any of these things, we are simply the ones who must take the initiative to renounce everything that is in different areas of our life that are not pleasing to God. We have to kill the bad, remove everything that prevents us from having spiritual growth.

From today, you must begin to renounce bitterness, anger, the past and all the desires of the flesh. When the human being makes the determination and the decision to do the perfect will of God, all his promises will be a yes and amen.

How do emotions affect our life?

  1. They influence our relationships with others.

We are usually the product of our past experiences, and our reactions arise according to the hurts we have experienced in the past.

For example, a woman who was abused by her partner will always be defensive in any other relationship. Another is that of a person who has a root of rejection, this prevents him from expressing his emotions and, as a consequence, creates a low esteem.

  1. They will be an obstacle to our faith.

If we let ourselves be guided by our emotions, it will be very difficult to believe in the word of God. This will make us want to see first and then believe. All believers children of God have to walk out of conviction and not out of emotion.

Emotional wounds prevent us from giving ourselves to the body of Christ to live together in love and without fear of being rejected. The wounds of the soul caused by the past damage your present and your happiness.
