1. kick (patevw, 3961) is used: (a) intransitively and figuratively, of stepping on snakes (Luk 10:19 “to trample”); (b) transitively, from trampling, trampling, from the profanation of Jerusalem by her enemies (Luk 21:24 “shall be trodden”; Rev 11:2 “shall tread”); of the vengeance of the Lord, personally, in the future, of this profanation and persecution of the Jews, in divine retribution, metaphorically exposed as the treading of the winepress of God’s wrath (Rev 14:20 “the winepress was trodden” 19:15: “tread the winepress)” (cf. Isa 63:2,3). See PISAR.¶ 2. katapateo (katapatevw, 2662), trample, trample under foot. It is used: (a) literally (Mat 5:13; 7.6; Luk 8:5; 12.1); (b) metaphorically, of “he who trampled under foot” the Son of God (Heb 10:29), that is, turning his back on him, and giving himself over to sin in open rebellion.¶
