proskuneo (προσκυνέω, G4352), see ADORAR, A, No. 2. Translates “they bowed” (Mar 15:19; KJV: “they worshiped”); see also KNEEL, BOW, BEG.

proskuneo (προσκυνέω, G4352), to bow, give obeisance to (from pros, towards, and kuneo, to kiss). It is the word most often translated worship. It is used of an act of homage or reverence: (a) to God (eg, Mat 4:10; Joh 4:21-24; 1Co 14:25; Rev 4:10; Rev 5:14; Rev 7:11, Rev 11:16, Rev 19:10(b) and Rev 22:9); (b) to Christ (e.g., Mat 2:2, Mat 2:8, Mat 2:11; Mat 8:2; Mat 9:18; Mat 14:33; Mat 15:25; Mat 20:20 ; Mat 28:9, Mat 28:17; Joh 9:38; Heb 1:6, citing the LXX of Deu 32:43, referring to the Second Coming of Christ); (c) to a man (Mat 18:26); (d) to the dragon, by men (Rev 13:4); (e) to the beast, his human instrument (Rev 13:15; Rev 14:11; Rev 16:12); (g) to demons (Rev 9:20); (h) to idols (Acts 7:43).

Note: As for Mat 18:26, it is listed as follows in the “American Committee Preferred Reading and Translation List” (see English Revised Version, Classes of Passages, IV): “to the word ” worship”” in Mat 2:2, etc., add the marginal note “the Greek word denotes an act of reverence, whether done to man (see ch. Mat 18:26) or to God (see ch. Mat 4: 10)»». The note at Joh 9:38 in the American Standard Version (ASV) in connection with this is most false, implying that Christ was a creature. JN Darby translates this verb in his New Translation as “do homage.” See also KNEEL(SE), PROSTRADE(SE), REVERENCE (DO), PRAY.

proskuneo (προσκυνέω, G4352), means “to worship”. It is translated by the verb “prostrate” in Mat 8:2; Matt 9:18; Matt 15:25; Matt 20:20; Rev 3:9; in the VR it is always translated with the verb “to adore”. For its meaning, see ADORE. See also KNEEL, BOW, BEG.

proskuneo (προσκυνέω, G4352), to worship. It is translated “kneeled” only in Mark 5:6 (KJV; KJV: “he fell down”; KJV gives the correct meaning, “worshipped him”). The meaning of this word is to worship, or reverence. See ADORE, and also PROSTRADE (BE), REVERENCE (DO), PRAY.

Note: A phrase consisting of tithemi, to lay, with gonata, plural of gonu, knee (see KNEE), means to kneel, and is always used of an attitude of prayer (Luke 22:41, lit. “laying the knees”; KJV: “kneeling”; Acts 7:60; Acts 9:40; Acts 20:36; Acts 21:5).¶
