no sickness: Just as God turned Mara’s water bitter, He also promised that His people would not get sick (Exo 23:25). The descriptive phrase I am Jehovah your healer attests to the mercy and power of God. What is still true: all cures come from the Lord.

I AM JEHOVAH YOUR HEALER. If the Israelites heeded God and followed Him fervently, He would not allow any of the diseases or plagues He brought upon the Egyptians to afflict them. That promise reveals that it is God’s fundamental desire to heal his people rather than to cause them sickness and disease (see also Exo 23:25; Deu 7:15; Ps 103:3 Ps 107:20; Eze 18:23 Eze 18:32 Eze 33:11). Jehovah your healer. Since this is what He is, Jehovah-rapha, it is evident that obedience to divine instructions and guidance will bring health, not the consequence of plagues such as those that befell Egypt. This promise is contextually limited to Israel, most likely only for the duration of the exodus.

your healer: It is the expression that is closest to the Hebrew text. However, in some languages it may not be well understood that it expresses an action or attitude of God, rather than a quality of his. Hence, TLA can be usefully used: “I am the one who gives you health.” Other alternatives are: “I am Yahweh, the one who heals you” (BJ), “the one who heals you” (DHH).
