ye shall serve also means to worship as well as to obey (Exo 3:12).

your bread and your waters, the necessities of life will be in Jehovah’s care, not that of the alleged Canaanite gods of fertility. The people of Israel must have no reason to look at false gods (v. Exo 23:24); the true God will meet his needs.

I WILL REMOVE ALL ILLNESS. God connected the elimination of disease from among his people with their sincere devotion to him and their separation from the ungodly influence that surrounded them. It cannot be concluded, however, that a person’s illness necessarily indicates that he has conformed to the wicked ways of society. This passage does suggest that the worldliness of God’s people as a whole will cause God to take away some of his blessing and power from him, thus affecting even the righteous among God’s people (cf. 1Co 12:26).

Your bread and your waters: It is important to retain this Hebrew expression (so do DHH, NIV, BJ), due to the symbolic strength of these elements. God’s blessing is manifested in those things that make life possible and encourage us to continue on the path.
