Bad friendships in the bible. reflections

We are currently going through very difficult situations where humanity becomes more perverse every day and where devastating natural events occur, such as earthquakes, floods, fires, among others. Therefore we must cling more to God and maintain fellowship with him. In this regard, the word tells us the following:

“Know this also: that in the last days perilous times will come. For there shall be men who are lovers of their own selves, covetous, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, impious, without natural affection, implacable, slanderers, intemperate, cruel, haters of good, treacherous, impetuous, high-minded, lovers of the delights more than of God, which will have the appearance of piety, but will deny its efficacy; these avoid” (2 Timothy 3:1-5).

But things will unfortunately continue to get worse, so we must be even more careful and choose our friends well because in moments of anguish our foot can stumble and we do not want that, we want to remain in faith, firm in Christ.

The bible predicted that in times of great difficulty, people would have much evil in their hearts: “But bad men and deceivers will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.” (2 Timothy 3:13).

On the other hand, it can be seen that today people are only looking for fun, are more violent, use offensive words, dabble in sorcery, magic and witchcraft and Santeria.

These things that do not please God and are currently seen as good but in reality they are not and can do us a lot of harm. But God has not changed his laws and continues to hate those bad things, as can be seen in his word:

“And since they did not approve of keeping God in mind, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do things that are not convenient; being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, perversity, greed, wickedness; full of envy, murder, contention, deceit and malignity; backbiters, backbiters, haters of God, insulting, arrogant, haughty, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, without natural affection, implacable, without mercy; who, understanding the judgment of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do them, but also take pleasure in those who practice them.” (Romans 1:28-32).

In the time of Christ, where the first Christians were, people also sought amusement with violent things and sexual sins. However, the believers faithful to the Lord did not do this type of thing because they obeyed the laws of God. For which the others pointed out them as weird and were the reason for ridicule and humiliation.

This happens today, but we must know that we only care what God thinks of us and not what the rest of the world thinks that does not understand God’s plan. That’s why it’s important to have friends who share your faith in Christ and who build you up every day.

On the other hand, the Bible warns us that we must follow the example of Christ and that we will be persecuted: “And also all those who want to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12).

who should be our friends

The first friend in your life should be Jesus Christ, but we certainly live in the world and we must live with many people. So if we don’t want this world to deceive us, we must be very careful of the companies we have. The bible warns us that “Bad company spoils useful habits” (1 Corinthians 15:33).

In this way, to maintain friendship with God we must first choose our friends well, that they do not do wrong things and that they have a good heart. I know that we must not exclude or be respectful of persons, since God does not want any soul to be lost. But the best thing is that your friends are believers just like you.

Certainly there are believers who say they love God and their testimony proves otherwise. Therefore we must be vigilant and not get carried away by anyone. We achieve this if we maintain communion with our Father and if we do his will.

This is not easy because the world offers many flashy things that can trip us up and lead us astray. The important thing is to recognize our weaknesses and turn them over to the Lord so that he can work in our lives. We must leave the doors open to Christ so that he can enter and help us always.

Testimonies of bad and good friendships in the bible

In the Holy Scriptures we can appreciate testimonies of bad friendships, such as the case of the Israelites, since when they were going to arrive at the Promised Land, Jehovah warned them not to associate with the people who lived there or worship other gods, as can be seen in the word:

“You must not bow down to their gods or be induced to serve them, and you must not do anything like their deeds, but you will without fail cast them down and you will without fail bring down their sacred pillars. And you must serve Jehovah his God.” (Exodus 23:24, 25).

In this sense, Jehovah knows what is best for us, for this reason he has always commanded his servants to only marry people who serve God. Just as he commanded the Israelites not to marry those who worshiped other gods, as these people would cause the Israelites to do so as well.

On the other hand, we find the testimony of Solomon, who became the king of Israel and asked Jehovah to help him to be wise, and the Lord answered his prayer, and Solomon became famous for being very wise and possessing a nation very rich.

You can read:

The Bible tells us that Solomon was so well known for his wisdom and power that a queen from another country deigned to visit him and when she met him, she marveled at him, as can be seen in the word: “But I did not believe it, until I came, and my eyes have seen that not even the half was told to me; Your wisdom and goodness is greater than the fame that I had heard.” (1 Kings 10:7).

However, Solomon disobeyed God and had many foreign wives, who influenced him badly and that is why he stopped serving Jehovah faithfully. This can be seen in the word:

“But King Solomon loved, besides Pharaoh’s daughter, many foreign women; to those of Moab, to those of Ammon, to those of Edom, to those of Sidon, and to the Hittites; nations of which Jehovah had said to the children of Israel: You shall not come near them, nor shall they come near you; for they will certainly incline your hearts after their gods. To these, then, Solomon joined himself with love. And he had seven hundred queen wives and three hundred concubines; and his women have turned his heart away.” (1 Kings 11:1-3).

In this way, if this happened to Solomon, who was such a wise king, it can also happen to anyone who trusts in bad friendships, and marries someone who does not love God.

On the other hand we find Roboam, who did not know how to listen to the good advice that the elders gave him and preferred to listen to other opinions from younger people:

“Then King Rehoboam asked the advice of the elders who had stood before Solomon his father when he was alive, and said, How do you advise me to answer this people? And they spoke to him saying: If today you are a servant of this people and serve them, and speaking to them with good words, they will serve you forever. But he left the advice that the elders had given him, and asked for advice from the young men who had been brought up with him, and were before him” (1Kings 12:6-8).

At times when we get good advice from wise people, we don’t pay attention to it and forget about it, and instead let ourselves be influenced by people who do bad things and who don’t love God.

Therefore, it is better to have friends who are believers and who can give you advice full of love and the wisdom that comes from above, which is the wisdom of God, which we can find in his word and maintaining communion with him. Mister.

In order to avoid deviating from the correct path, which, although it is narrow, if we do our will, we will be able to widen it and obtain victory, which is one of God’s promises: “For the Lord your God goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you” (Deuteronomy)

Within the Bible we can also find examples of good friendships that at certain times can be of great help. As is the case with Noah, who never deviated from God’s purpose because he chose his true friends very well.

In these times, the world was full of people who only thought about doing bad things at all times, so God made the decision to destroy them all. But Noah was a just man and always did the will of the Lord, as can be seen in the word:

“And the Lord said: I will destroy men whom I have created from the face of the earth, from man to beast, and to reptiles and birds of the sky; Well, I regret having done it. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. (Genesis 6:7-8)

Noah was a just man who did the will of God and that is why he never associated with those who did not love the Lord. On the contrary, he was always with his family, with whom he dedicated himself to building the ark and preaching the word of God. This helped them survive the Flood.

Today, all of us come from Noah and his family. For which we must show gratitude to them who were obedient to God and avoided bad friendships. In the same way, the first Christians were obedient and did not associate with those who did not love the Lord, which helped them survive the destruction of Jerusalem in the year 70, as can be seen in the word:

“But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its destruction has come. Then those who are in Judea, flee to the mountains; and those who are in the midst of it, leave; and those who are in the fields, do not enter it. Because these are days of retribution, so that all things that are written may be fulfilled.” (Luke 21:20-22).

In this way, if we want to continue being faithful to God in these times, we must follow the example of Noah, his family and the first Christians, who, despite the difficulties, always stood firm doing the will of God and not being influenced by the bad friendships.
