Verses of encouragement for marriages in crisis

The marriage relationship is one in which there are happy and wonderful times and also times of sadness and frustration. In the midst of all of them we can find words of encouragement and strength when reading the Bible, the Word of God.

In times when it seems difficult to move on, it is good to have the help of others. Going to the pastor of the local church, mature brothers in the faith or professionals specialized in marriage counseling can help start the restoration process.

Colossians 3:12-14

Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, saints and loved ones, clothe yourselves with tender affection and goodness, humility, kindness and patience, so that you bear with one another and forgive each other if anyone has a complaint against another. Just as the Lord forgave you, forgive you too. Above all, clothe yourselves in love, which is the perfect bond.
(Colossians 3:12-14)

We are chosen of the Lord and have received so much from him! It’s very reassuring to see in God we have everything we need to live in peace with him and with others. Following the example of Christ we clothe ourselves with love, kindness, humility, kindness, patience and forgiveness to reflect that we are his chosen ones and keep the door open for reconciliation.

1 Peter 4:8

Above all, love one another deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins.

Love is, and always will be, the key to interpersonal relationships. By focusing on loving deeply, we stop looking at the flaws or bad habits of ourselves and others. Instead, in love, we work to strengthen the relationship and foster unity.

Philippians 4:6-7

Don’t worry about anything; rather, on every occasion, with prayer and supplication, present your petitions to God and give him thanks. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Contrary to worry or worry, prayer and gratitude can transform the situations we face and our attitude towards them. Carrying our burdens before God opens our hearts and minds to receive the peace of the Lord. Prayer affirms our confidence in the incomparable power of God. He is the only one who can transform any situation.

1 Peter 5:6-7

Humble yourselves, then, under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you.
(1 Peter 5:6-7)

Going before God in humility always brings blessing. We can bear all our burdens before him, talk to him, and acknowledge that we need his help. He always answers us and helps us because his great love for us remains firm even in the midst of the storms of life.

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brothers, consider well everything that is true, everything that is respectable, everything that is just, everything that is pure, everything that is lovely, everything that is worthy of admiration, in short, everything that is excellent or deserves praise.
(Philippians 4:8)

We reflect with our words and actions what is on our mind. Paul exhorts the church in Philippi to think of things that are true, respectable, just, pure, lovely, admirable, or praiseworthy. Guarding the mind protects the heart from unbridled emotions guided by lies or errors.

Ephesians 4:31-32

Give up all bitterness, anger and anger, shouting and slander, and all forms of malice. Rather, be kind and compassionate to one another, and forgive each other, just as God forgave you in Christ.
(Ephesians 4:31-32)

In God we have the best example of love and forgiveness. Bitterness, anger, anger and all forms of malice bring separation and destruction. They separate friendships, families and destroy our inner peace. God shows us a better way. The path of kindness, compassion and forgiveness. Such a heart brings peace, edification, restoration and blessing for all.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not tire of doing good, because in due time we will reap if we do not give up.
(Galatians 6:9)

The Bible is clear: what is sown is reaped. But every harvest requires a waiting time, which can cause discouragement. The important thing is to persevere and continue harvesting words and attitudes full of kindness. The result will be seen, the joy, the satisfaction and the good harvest will come in due time: the time of the Lord.

Matthew 28:20b

And I assure you that I will be with you always, until the end of the world.
(Matthew 28:20b)

Jesus has promised to be with his own always, every day and in the midst of everything that is done in obedience to him. And so it will be, he will be present until the end of the world. He is the best companion you can have in the midst of everything that happens day after day. Your presence of him brings strength, peace and hope!

Matthew 19:4-6

Have you not read, replied Jesus, that in the beginning the Creator “made them male and female,” and said, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall come to be one body”? So it’s not two anymore, it’s just one. Therefore, what God has united, let not man separate.
(Matthew 19:4-6)

Marriage was God’s idea and he is the one who unites the two people. With his power, his love and his presence, trials can be overcome.

John 14:1

Don’t be distressed. Trust God, and trust me too.
(John 14:1)

There are many circumstances that can distress us in life. But the Bible calls us to continue to trust in God and in his power. Trust in God helps us to wait firmly and safely because it has its foundation in his promises and in his love. God is always faithful, he never fails his children. He can be trusted!
