The Song of Hannah in the Bible

Esau married women from Canaan: Adah, daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah, daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite;

These were the children of Oholibamah, Esau’s wife, daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon, whom she gave to Esau:
Jeush, Jalão and Korah.

These were the sons of Oholibamama, Esau’s wife:
The chiefs Jehus, Jalam and Korah. These were the chiefs who were descendants of Oolibamama, wife of Esau, daughter of Anah.

These were the sons of Seir the Horite, who were inhabiting that region: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeam, and Anah,

These were the sons of Zibeon:
Aiá and Aná. It was this Anah who discovered the springs of hot water in the desert, when he was taking his father Zibeon’s donkeys to pasture.

These were the sons of Anah:
Dishon and Oholibama, the daughter of Anah.

These were the leaders of the Horites:
Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,

Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord:
“I will sing to the Lord,
for he triumphed gloriously.
He threw the horse into the sea
and its knight!

On that day, Deborah and Barak, son of Abinoam, sang this song:

He had two wives: one was named Hannah and the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children; Ana, however, had not.

But Ana gave a double portion, because she loved her, even though the Lord had left her sterile.

This happened year after year. Whenever Hannah went up to the house of the Lord, her rival provoked her, and she cried and did not eat.

Elkanah, her husband, asked her: “Anna, why are you crying? Why don’t you eat? Why are you sad? Am I not better to you than ten children?”

Once when he had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh, while the priest Eli was sitting on a chair near the entrance to the sanctuary of the Lord, Hannah stood up.

As Hannah prayed silently, her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Then Eli thought she was drunk

Hannah replied, “That’s not the case, my lord. I am a very distressed woman. I did not drink wine or fermented drink; I was pouring out my soul before the Lord.

The next morning they arose and worshiped the Lord; then they returned home to Ramah. Elkanah had relations with his wife Hannah, and the Lord remembered her.

So Ana became pregnant and, in due time, gave birth to a son. And she named him Samuel, saying, “I asked him of the Lord.”

Hannah did not go and said to her husband, “After the child is weaned, I will take him and present him to the Lord, and he will live there forever.”

Then Hannah prayed like this:
“My heart rejoices in the Lord;
In the Lord my strength is exalted.
My mouth exalts
over my enemies,
for I rejoice in your deliverance.

The Lord was kind to Hannah; she became pregnant and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, the boy Samuel grew up in the presence of the Lord.

David sang this song to the Lord, when he delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul,

These were the sons of Seir:
Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,
Dishon, Ezer and Dishan.

These were the sons of Shobal:
Alvã, Manaath, Ebal, Shephô and Onã.
These were the sons of Zibeon:
Aiá and Aná.

This was the son of Anah: Dishon.
These were the sons of Dishon:
Hendã, Esbã, Itrã and Querã.

Jeremiah composed a song of lament in honor of Josiah, and to this day all singers honor Josiah with songs of lament. These became a tradition in Israel and are written in the collection of lamentations.

Ahijah, Hanan, Anan,

The Lord is my strength and my shield;
My heart trusts in Him, and I receive help from Him.
My heart rejoices with joy,
and with my song I will give thanks to him.

He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see this and fear,
and they will trust in the Lord.

Sing to the Lord a new song;
Sing to the Lord, all you inhabitants of the earth!
