God blinds the Syrian army

All Bible passages about the episode “God blinds the Syrian army”.

Kings 6

Now the king of Syria was at war with Israel. After meeting with his counselors, he said: I will set up my camp in such a place.

But the man of God sent a message to the king of Israel: Avoid passing through that place, because the Arameans are going down there.

Thus, the king of Israel investigated the place indicated by the man of God. Repeatedly Elisha warned the king, who took the necessary precautions.

This infuriated the king of Syria, who, summoning his counselors, asked them: Will you not point out to me which of us is on the side of the king of Israel?

One of the counselors replied: None of us, Your Majesty. It is Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, who reveals to the king of Israel even the words that you speak in your room.

The king ordered: Find out where he is, so that I can have him captured. When they informed him that the prophet was in Dothan,

he sent there a large troop with horses and chariots. They arrived at night and surrounded the city.

The servant of the man of God got up very early in the morning and, as he went out, he saw that a troop with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. Then he exclaimed: Ah, my lord! What will we do?

The prophet replied: Do not be afraid. Those who are with us are more numerous than they are.

And Elisha prayed, Lord, open his eyes that he may see. Then the Lord opened the boy’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire around Elisha.

When the Arameans came down to Elisha, he prayed to the Lord: Strike these men with blindness. Then he struck them with blindness, as Elisha had requested.

Elisha said to them: This is not the way, nor is this the city that they are looking for. Follow me, and I will lead you to the man you are looking for. And he led them to the city of Samaria.

As soon as they entered the city, Elisha said: Lord, open the eyes of these men that they may see. Then the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw that they were within Samaria.

When the king of Israel saw them, he asked Elisha: Shall I kill them, my father? Should I kill them?

He replied: No! Does the king often kill prisoners he captures with sword and bow? He orders them to be served food and drink and let them return to their master.

Then the king prepared a great feast for them, and when they had finished eating and drinking, he sent them back to his lord. Thus, Syrian troops stopped invading Israeli territory.
