Verses from Daniel 8 from the book of Daniel in the Bible.

Daniel’s vision of the ram and the goat

1

In the third year of King Belshazzar’s reign, I, Daniel, saw another vision, the second.

two

In my vision I saw myself in the citadel of Susa, in the province of Elam; In the vision I was by the Ulai canal.

3

I looked up and in front of me, next to the canal, was a ram; His two horns were long, one longer than the other, but the longer one grew after the other.

4

I watched the ram as it moved west, north, and south. No animal could resist him, and no one could free themselves from his power. He did what he wanted and got bigger and bigger.

5

While I was considering this, suddenly a goat, with a huge horn between its eyes, came from the west, traveling the entire length of the land without touching the ground.

6

He came towards the two-horned ram which I had seen beside the canal, and charged at it with great fury.

7

I saw him furiously attack the ram, hitting it and breaking its two horns. The ram did not have the strength to resist him; the goat knocked him to the ground and trampled him, and no one was able to free the ram from his power.

8

The goat became very large, but at the height of its strength its great horn was broken, and in its place four enormous horns grew, in the direction of the four winds of the earth.

9

From one of them came a little horn, which soon grew in power toward the south, the east, and the Magnificent Land.

10

It grew until it reached the army of the heavens, and it threw part of the army of the stars to the earth and trampled them underfoot.

11

He grew so much that he even challenged the prince of the army; he suppressed the daily sacrifice offered to the prince, and the sanctuary site was destroyed.

12

Because of the rebellion, the army of the saints and the daily sacrifice were given to the horn. He was successful in everything he did, and the truth was thrown to the ground.

13

Then I heard two angels talking, and one of them asked the other: “How long will the events announced by this vision last? How long will the daily sacrifice be suppressed and the devastating rebellion prevail? How long will the sanctuary and the army be handed over to the power of the horn and will be trampled?”

14

He said to me, “This will all take two thousand three hundred evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary will be reconsecrated.”

Gabriel interprets the vision

15

As I, Daniel, watched the vision and tried to understand it, a being that looked like a man appeared before me.

16

And I heard the voice of a man coming from Ulai: “Gabriel, give this man the meaning of the vision.”

17

When he approached me, I was terrified and fell prostrate. He said to me, “Son of man, know that the vision refers to the end times.”

18

While he was talking to me, I, with my face on the ground, lost consciousness. Then he touched me and lifted me to my feet.

19

And he said, “I will tell you what will happen afterward, in the time of wrath, for the vision refers to the time of the end.

20

The two-horned ram you saw represents the kings of Media and Persia.

21

The shaggy goat is the king of Greece, and the great horn between his eyes is the first king.

22

The four horns that took the place of the horn that was broken are four kings. Their kingdoms will arise from the nation of that king, but they will not have the same power.

23

“At the end of their reign, when the rebellion of the wicked has reached its peak, there will arise a king of hard countenance, a master of cunning.

24

He will become very strong, but not by his own power. He will cause terrible devastation and will be successful in everything he does. He will destroy the mighty men and the holy people.

25

In order to prosper, he will deceive many and consider himself superior to others. He will destroy many who trust in him and will rise up against the Prince of princes. Despite this, he will be destroyed, but not by the power of men.

26

“The vision of the evenings and mornings that you received is true; but seal the vision, for it refers to the distant future.”

27

I, Daniel, was exhausted and sick for several days. Then I got up and went back to attending to the king’s business. I was frightened by the sight; it was beyond human understanding.
