THE BOOK OF LIFE ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE

Introduction: Today there are many authors of books, and many more books. There is something for all tastes and needs; It is considered that many medical and scientific articles are written every day, so many that man cannot read them, much less assimilate them, but they are undoubtedly interesting, since they talk about human health and new discoveries and advances in science.

Now we will study a unique, heavenly book, its content is vital, it is property of God, because he calls it “His book”… it is the BOOK OF LIFE

The book of life ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE

(Pastors Gonzalo and Andrea Sanabria)
YO. DEFINITION: Phil. 4:1-3.
So, my beloved and desired brothers, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord, beloved. I beg Euodia and Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord. I also ask you, faithful companion, to help these who fought together with me in the gospel, with Clemente also and the other collaborators of mine, whose names are in the book of life.
A. This book contains the names of those who, through faith in God and in his Son Jesus Christ, have attained eternal life.
Note: We observe in the passage read, that vrs. 3 refers to believers in the gospel, and it is stated: “whose names are written in the book of life” (then it tells us about a prerequisite to have the name written there: believe in the gospel).
b. It is a heavenly nature book
Note: Due to the conditions of the sky itself (I am referring to the room of God) the material that composes it is unique. It is heavenly also because it is in heaven and its writing is unique. Just as there are heavenly languages, there are also heavenly scriptures, remember that Daniel had to interpret with God’s help the message written on the wall for King Belshazzar (Daniel 5:5).

II. REQUIREMENTS AND BENEFITS OF THE BOOK:

A. Faith in the Lamb, Rev. 9:27 p.m.
Nothing that is unclean, or that does an abomination or lies, will enter it, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
Note: The verse teaches us a new title: “the Lamb’s book of life”, the term Lamb reminds us of the sacrifice on the altar, and points to Christ, the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, and is “of the Lamb ” because it highlights that faith in him is the way for our name to be inscribed there.
Note: The context tells us about the Celestial Jerusalem, the city of God, and having the name inscribed in this book guarantees access to the city, a city with unique characteristics, since it is the abode of God himself.
b. Faithfulness to God, Rev. 3:5-6.
He who overcomes will be clothed in white garments; and I will not blot out his name from his book of life, and I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. Let him who has an ear hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
Note: Although at first the message is addressed to the church in Sardis, it later becomes a message for all the churches (vv. 6). According to vs. 5 the believer is required to be an overcomer (overcome the world and its offers, pride and sin, double-mindedness and the enemy of our souls with the help of God), God has told us that in him we are more than conquerors , and we will be rewarded with:
two.
Our name will remain forever in the book of life,

3.
Our name will be confessed by Christ before the Father and his angels.

The experience of Moses, Ex. 32:31-33, teaches us several things:

Then Moses returned to Jehovah, and said: I beg you, since this people has committed a great sin, because they made themselves gods of gold, that you now forgive their sin, and if not, save me now from your book that you have written. And the LORD said to Moses, Whoever sins against me, him will I destroy from my book.
1.
Moses had knowledge of the book of God,
two.
He knew his name was written there,
3.
God’s will is that men be saved, not that they be lost.
Note: For a born again person there is assurance that his name will not be blotted out, but if he turns away from God, and returns to his old life, the most likely conclusion is that he was not born again and needs to genuinely surrender his life to God. .

III. THE BOOK OF LIFE AND THE GREAT WHITE THRONE, Rev. 8:11 p.m.
And I saw a great white throne and him who sat on it, from whose presence the earth and the sky fled away, and no place was found for them.
A. This event is the final judgment.
Note: The white color speaks to us of His holiness, and the fact that the earth and the sky flee from before the throne, indicate the power and solemnity of the moment. All those who come before this throne, come to hear the final and damning sentence, are no longer before the throne of grace but before the throne of eternal judgment.
b. All the dead will appear before God, vrs. 12th
And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before God;
Note: The phrase “All the dead” includes all those wicked from the antediluvians to the future time when God establishes His kingdom on earth. “Great and small” indicate: powerful and weak, rich and poor, doctors and illiterate, without distinction of race or color. “Stand before God” as a defendant when he awaits his sentence.

(We invite you to read: Put your trust in God. ).
c. In heaven there are several books and some contain the sin of men, vrs. 12b-14.
and the books were opened, and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged by the things that were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead that were in it; and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them; and they were judged each according to his works. And death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death”.
Note: The phrase “and the dead were judged” reminds us that death does not cancel the judgment to come. These sins are those that have not been forgiven, because men did not repent of them, they did not accept the blood of Jesus for the redemption of their sins because they did not believe in him.

Although all the ungodly (or unconverted) will suffer the same condemnation, the degrees of condemnation will be different, for example: Mat 23:14, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you devour widows’ houses, and as a pretext you make long prayers; for this you will receive greater condemnation.”
Note: All whose names are written in the book of life, are saved from eternal damnation (lake of fire), and it is a reason for great joy for the believer, Jesus said it, Lc. 10:17-20.
Note: Since ancient times it was customary to record the names of the citizens of a city or a country in a registry, that is why we say citizenship card. When we are born again, we are registered in heaven as new citizens.

In this land andWe are passing through, we are foreigners because we are from heaven; That is why the apostle Paul said: “But our citizenship is in heaven, from where we also await a Savior, Jesus Christ our Lord” (Phil. 3:20).
Conclusion: God gave his Son for you, he has planned to save you and bless you, he loves you, and he wants you to be faithful to him, because he comes for his church, he comes for you, your name must be written in the book of the life, will not be erased, but will remain and one day we will enter the heavenly Jerusalem, and we will be forever with the Lord, let us thank God for having saved us…
