She is known as Our Lady of Fatima but also as Our Lady of Fatima or Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima.

It is a figure through which Mary, the mother of Jesus, is venerated in Catholicism.

Story of Fatima

The history of the Virgin of Fátima is very particular since it emerges from almost contemporary events and from stories that have even been worked on by the press of the time.

Appearances

The apparitions of the Virgin of Fatima, arise at the beginning of the 20th century, more specifically in the spring of the year 1916, where three shepherd children experienced an angelic presence while herding their sheep.

The children stated that the Virgin taught them to pray specific prayers to ask for the conversion of sinners. In addition, they told that this was a preparation for the next visits of the Virgin Mary.

A year later, on Sunday, May 13, 1917, the children were herding in a place known as Cova da Iria. One of them described seeing a woman “brighter than the sun” dressed in white and with a rosary in her hands, who asked them to return on the same day and at the same time for five months in a row.

Another of the children stated that he did not hear the woman speak but did see her. They ran to the town to tell the story but most of its inhabitants did not believe them.

The last apparition of the Virgin of Fatima took place on October 3, 1917, where the famous “miracle of the sun” took place, which was witnessed by some 50,000 people, including journalists and personalities considered “free thinkers”.

It is late, the sun offered a show of colors that stunned the thousands of people who were there.

Images

The Virgin of Fatima is usually represented on top of a hill, dressed in white, with a rosary in her hand, shining and with the three shepherd children staring at her.

There are also some images of the Virgin of Fatima during the famous “miracle of the sun” where you can see many people worshiping the solar show that happened in 1917.

Day of the Virgin of Fatima

The official celebration is on May 13, the day on which the first of all the apparitions of Fatima took place, in front of the three shepherd children. The city of Fátima, after the Holy Land, is one of the most visited pilgrimage centers by parishioners who, during this special date, gather in prayer there on the hills of Cova de Iria (Portugal).
