Who was Saint Josemaría Escriva

He was born in Aragón on January 9, 1902. He was a Spanish priest who founded Opus Dei in 1928 and his feast day is celebrated every June 26.

Monsignor Escrivá de Balaguer was the second of six brothers. As a child he already incorporates the fundamentals of faith into his life. He had a difficult childhood, the death of three of his sisters and the financial ruin of his family made his family move to Logroño in search of work.

It was in 1918 that Josemaría decided to become a priest and began his ecclesiastical studies. In 1927 he moved to Madrid to obtain a doctorate in law. There he carries out an intense priestly service among poor sick people and children. It was on October 2, 1928 during a spiritual retreat where he received a divine message with a mission: to create Opus Dei to promote among men and women a personal commitment to follow Christ and love God.

Josémaria Escriva died in Rome on June 26, 1975 and was canonized in 2002 in front of more than 400,000 faithful who attended his canonization.
