History of Saint Augustine of Hippo
Agustín de Hiponá was born in the city of Tagaste, on November 13, 354. He was a priest and Doctor of the Catholic Church. He is considered one of the greatest thinkers of Christianity of the first millennium. His works include Confessions and The City of God.
He was born into a wealthy family. Her father was a pagan landowner and her mother, who will later be canonized as Saint Monica, was a selfless Christian whose figure is revered by the church as a mother concerned about the well-being of her family.
Agustín began his basic studies, and was later sent by his father to study grammar. Agustín excelled in the study of letters and then devoted himself fully to philosophy. In 383, he left for Rome and was appointed there magister rhetoric in Mediolanum, present-day Milan.
It was there where he lived his last stage before converting to Christianity. He began to attend the liturgical celebrations of Bishop Ambrose and was amazed at his preaching. It was then that they decided to convert definitively to Christianity.
On April 24, 387, at the age of 33, he was baptized in Milan by the holy bishop Ambrose. His feast is celebrated on August 28, the day he died in the year 430.
