History of the Virgin of the Miraculous Medal

The story of the figure of the Virgin of the miraculous medal happened in France during the year 1830. The young novice Catalina Labouré witnessed three apparitions of the Virgin in the chapel of the convent of the Sisters of Charity.

The first apparition happened on the night of July 18-19, 1830. The guardian angel woke up and guided Catalina to the chapel where she met the Virgin Mary. There, the Virgin named her ambassador Glory of God and told her “Come to the foot of the altar. Here you will be given all the graces if you ask with confidence”

The second apparition also happened in the chapel, on November 27 of the same year. As Catalina meditated with her sisters from the community, she looked towards the altar and saw the Blessed Virgin. When she looked at her, she formed an oval box surrounding the virgin and the letter M was seen leaning on top of her, the Cross. There, the virgin told him “Have a medal minted according to this model, As many people carry it with confidence, they will receive great graces.

Catalina entrusted everything to Father Aladel, who was her confessor and spiritual guide and who assured her that spreading the symbol of the medal was the divine order that Catalina had for her life.

The third apparition happened at the end of the year 1830, also in the chapel. The virgin introduced herself and said “You will not see me anymore”. The day of the Virgin of the Miraculous Medal is celebrated on November 27.

Second day
