Illness, whether it be our own or that of a loved one, can be very difficult to deal with, especially if it is serious. How good to know that we can cry out to God! He always listens to us, strengthens us and works according to what is best for us. The Bible says that “the prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective” (James 5:16b). Let us not give up praying. Let’s take our illnesses before God!

General prayer asking for healing

Holy Father and good Father, thank you for your kindness to all of us. Thank you for all the good things you have granted us throughout our lives. I come to you, Lord, to ask that you grant health to those who suffer from illness at this time. Lord, I ask that your powerful hand reach each one of them, granting them relief for their pains and encouragement for the spirit.

There are children, youth and adults suffering right now due to serious illnesses and ailments. Show them your mercy, Lord. Relieves the sorrow and pain they feel. Thank you, Lord, that you hear us when we cry out to you. Please attend to the inner cry of those who feel too weak because of the disease. Give them new strength. May they feel your presence and the incomparable peace that comes from you.

Above all things I ask you, Father, that the sick may have an encounter with you. Help them feel your presence and your hand upon them. That each of them can have contact with people who love you and can hear the message of salvation. Reveal your love and care through your children. That every sick person can hear about Jesus and his sacrifice of love on the cross. May they open their hearts to you, Lord, my God, so that they receive the healing of the soul.

Also bless the family and friends of each of them. Help us to be of support, encouragement and blessing in these difficult times. Prayer for someone with depression

Father God, you know us and you know what we feel before we say it. Thank you because you accompany us at all times, in times of joy and in times of sadness or illness. Your children count on your presence and your love always! We can live with that confidence. Thank you!

Lord, you know how my brother feels right now. He feels depressed and discouraged, as if he has a great dark cloud hanging over him. He doesn’t have to walk alone!

You have the solution for this depressing feeling about him. Give him the courage and desire to seek medical help and pastoral counseling. Don’t stay cooped up feeling hopeless, but go out for help. Help him to stand firm in you and to find doctors and wise people who listen to him and accompany him in the restoration process.

Thank you that you hear us when we cry out to you and we can trust that you will act. In the name of Jesus, amen.

Prayer for a terminally ill person

Father God, for you there is nothing impossible and that is our trust. When the doctors say there is no hope, we cling to you more because we know that you can still act. We will not stop praying and asking for healing in the name of Jesus because we believe in you and in your infinite power. Please work in the midst of this illness, beloved Father. Heal this body in a supernatural and miraculous way. You can do it right now if it is your will!

In you we are more than conquerors. Glory to you, Lord! Thank you that we, your children, have the hope of eternal life. Nothing and no one, no illness or pain will separate us from you or your love! That is our security today and for all eternity. Amen.

Yet in all this we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither what is present nor what is to come, nor powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love that God has manifested us in Christ Jesus our Lord.
