Prayer for the Children for their Protection and Blessing

Prayer is a gift that God has given us to be in communion with him. It is an opportunity to express our needs, thank him for what he has done in our lives, and ask him to be with us through difficult times.

As parents, one of the ways we can pray for our children is asking God to protect and bless them. This is especially important in these times when our children face many challenges and dangers.

The Bible gives us many verses that encourage us to pray for our children. Here are some of them:

“And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, except that you fear the LORD your God, walk in all his ways, and love him, and serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul?” (Deuteronomy 10:12).

“Keep me, O God, for in you I have trusted. Oh, my God, keep me safe from wicked hands and from the hands of wicked men, who devise evil in their hearts.” (Psalm 140:4-5).

“May the Lord bless you and protect you; May the Lord make his face shine upon you and have mercy on you; May the Lord lift up his face upon you and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26).

Praying for the protection and blessing of our children is a way of telling them that we love them and that we trust God to care for them.

How to pray for the protection of children

The Bible is full of protective verses for children. God wants us to take care of them and protect them from all evil. Here are some Bible verses that you can use to pray for the protection of your children.

1. Protection against evil

“Keep me safe, O God, for I have trusted in you. Deliver me from all who persecute me and rescue me, lest they devour me like a lion and tear me to pieces without anyone freeing me.” Psalm 7:1-2

“O Jehovah, God of Israel, protect the harmless, you are the one who sustains the pure in heart. Selah.» Psalm 12:7

“For you, O Lord, are our shield, and our glorious majesty. You bring down those who rise up against us, and you humble the wicked.” Psalm 89:18

2. Protection against sin

“Oh God, listen to my prayer, and don’t forget my prayers. Incline your ear to my cry, and when I cry, answer me quickly. Because my thoughts are disturbed, and my bowels afflict me. My heart is in panic within me, and the terror of death overwhelms me. I fear the terror of the night, and the spoil that moves in the darkness. Terrors will fall on me like a storm, and pain will surround me like thorns. My soul is so distressed that I faint, and even my bones tremble. By my side I am like a dead man, and my eyes are consumed inside. All my friends far away have me, and my relatives abandon me. Those who seek my life surrounded me, and plot my evils. Like a prey they lie in wait for me, and like a lion they surround me. I raise my hands to you, oh God, who are my refuge; save me from the power of my enemies, and from those who persecute me. Make my eyes see your salvation, and be free from all anguish. Selah.» Psalm 31:1-8

3. Protection against the enemy

“I will praise you, O Lord, my strength, you are my refuge, my God, my strength, in you I will trust. Jehovah is our shield, and our king, our Savior. Save, O Lord, your people, and bless your inheritance. May he be shepherd of your people, and sustain them forever.” Psalm 28:7-9

“O Jehovah, hear my prayer, and let my cry come to you. Do not hide your face from me in the day of my anguish, incline your ear to me, in the day that I cry. Incline your ear to my cry, when I cry to you in my days of anguish.” Psalm 102:1-2

4. Protection from the world

“O Jehovah, hear my prayer, and let my cry come to you. Do not hide your face from me in the day of my anguish, incline your ear to me, in the day that I cry. Incline your ear to my cry, when I cry out to you in my days of distress. The desire for your commandments consumes me; in your justice vivifies my soul. Take away from me the opprobrium that I fear, because your commandments are good. Look at my affliction, and deliver me, because I have not forgotten your commandments.” Psalm 119:145-153

“Keep me, O Lord, from wicked hands and evil eyes. Keep me from wicked lips and a deceitful tongue. Selah. O Jehovah, stand me in your presence, and fill me with your spirit. O Jehovah, open my lips, so that my mouth may publish your praise. Because you don’t want sacrifice, otherwise I would have given you my heart; you do not delight in holocausts. The sacrifices of God are the broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you will not cast away, O Lord.” Psalm 51:9-17

How to bless a child according to the Bible

The Bible gives us clear instructions on how we are to bless our children. The book of Proverbs says: “My son, do not forget my teaching, keep my commandments in your heart; because long life and years of life and peace will increase you. These words will never depart from your mouth, but you will keep them carefully in your heart, so that you can fulfill them. Teach your son the discipline and instruction of the LORD. Do not abandon the teaching of your son, for they will be his hope and his joy »(Proverbs 3: 1-4, 12-13, NIV).

So what does this mean for us as parents? We must teach our children the Word of God and help them memorize it. We must pray for them and with them. We must live a life of obedience to God before them. We must love them unconditionally.

The Bible tells us that our prayers for our children are very powerful: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge God, and he will make your paths straight. Let not the wise glory in his own wisdom, nor the strong in his own strength, nor the rich in his own wealth; but glory in this: in understanding and knowing the LORD. The eyes of the LORD look upon the righteous, and his ears listen to his prayers; the face of the LORD is toward the one who does good” (Proverbs 3:5-6, 13-16, NIV).

We can be sure that God hears our prayers and that He will answer them according to His will. We must pray in faith, knowing that God has a perfect plan for our children. Let us pray that our children are led by the Holy Spirit, that they be obedient to the Word of God, that they be a witness of Christ to all those around them.
