My Identity as a Son of God According to the Bible

My identity as a child of God is based on my relationship with him, in which the bonds of union that identify us as his children are strengthened. Knowing our identity has to do with knowing who we are, what defines us in relation to our Heavenly Father.

I invite you to read:

In this way, the nature of God is the love with which we have been created with a specific purpose. Your identity is related to the way you project yourself to the world as a true child of God. This can prove to be a challenge, especially since we live in a world where appearances are more valuable than anything else.

But you will not do this path alone, since you will go hand in hand with Christ, who will guide you and help you find your identity as a child of God and recognize yourself before others, since without a doubt, the chosen ones are different from the rest of the world, because our only end is God.

My identity as a child of God according to the Bible

When we understand the value we have for God and the love he has for you, you will be able to recognize yourself as a true child of God because despite adversity, he extends his hand and guides you along his path of light, protects you and protects you.

However, this does not mean that our path as believers is easy, since it is a narrow path, which will be full of challenges day by day because we are immersed in a world that belongs to Satan and is ruled by evil hosts. As the word reveals:

“You have heard that I said to you: I am going, and I am coming to you. If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I have said that I am going to the Father; because the greater Father is than me. And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it does happen, you may believe. I won’t talk much with you anymore; because the prince of this world comes, and he has nothing in me. But so that the world knows that I love the Father, and as the Father commanded me, so I do. Get up, let’s get out of here” (John 14: 28-31)

In this sense, to discover my identity as a child of God, we must be clear about who we are in a spiritual sense and in relation to God. And be consistent when it comes to modeling the values that define a child of God, regardless of the environment in which you find yourself, since you should not please Others but should only pay homage to God, the creator of all things. things, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

It is important to maintain our communion with God to prevent doubt from taking over us and we deviate from the correct path that is Christ Jesus. For this, it is important to take into account the following:

  • Do not allow yourself to be pressured: Each person is different and each process in the Lord is individual and personal. You must consider that you are special to the Lord, regardless of what society tries to tell you. So don’t fall for provocations or fights. It only matters what you consider yourself for God and your relationship with him.
  • Do not listen to baseless criticism: there will always be someone who criticizes you and who is more inclined to see your defects. That is something normal and even you can fall for it. But these criticisms do not constitute the absolute truth because the truth is Christ and if he is in you, no one will be able to intimidate you.
  • You are a child of God: You are not perfect, but you are a child of the Almighty and that is what you must internalize. Therefore, God has given you spiritual gifts to be able to fight evil with wisdom, since our fight is not carnal but spiritual.
  • Changes must be for the better: Change is a process that occurs personally in each of God’s children. There are changes that occur immediately and there are others that take a long time. Each believer has his process to be transformed, improved and shaped by God. So you must be sure that if you identify yourself as a child of God, the changes will come to improve your life.

It should be noted that we have all made the mistake of going against God’s will at some point, but this is one of the aspects that we must change in order to please God, since he wants his children to obey him and do his work here in the earth, proclaim his word and bear good witness to what he has done for each one of us.

what is the true identity

To know what our true identity is as children of God, it is important to search the scriptures, where we can find all the answers to our questions. In this regard, the book John 1: 12 and 13 shows us the following:

“But to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God; Which were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

In this sense, the Holy Scriptures show us that we are children of God and that this is our identity on this earth. Therefore, we must be clear about who we are and what our purpose is in this world.

However, for God to recognize us as his true children, we must dispose our hearts only for him, be faithful and loyal to his perfect will. Drop all our burdens and hand them over to him. This passage shows us different aspects of our identity that should be highlighted:

1.- We are Children of God

God, first of all, provides us with an identity, marks us out as his Children. So he gives us gifts to put into practice. But these gifts are not for our vainglory, they are to recognize that the Glory and Honor is only from God.

Nowadays, titles and credentials are given a lot of importance, but the most important thing is the privilege that God has given us to be his children. In this way, what has the greatest value is not what we do in this world, but what he has already done for us.

As his word says: “For if, being enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we will be saved by his life.” (Romans 5:10)

In this sense, due to the death of Jesus our identity as children was restored. It must be remembered that the fundamental identity as ministers or leaders is to be called Children of God.

2.- Approach as Son of the Almighty

If we are Children of God, we must approach him, communicate daily with our Father, read his word and behave correctly to bear witness to what the Lord does with his children.

Being a son implies a great responsibility both spiritually and personally, since we are the temple and dwelling place of the Holy Spirit and all eyes are on us to see that our foot stumbles, and surely if we are going to stumble but we will get up because we have God as our guide.

We can be defeated at many times but not completely knocked down because we have our protector who will never let us fight alone. We can see this in his words:

“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the excellence of the power may be from God, and not from us, who are troubled in everything, but not anguished; in trouble, but not desperate; persecuted, but not helpless; shot down, but not destroyed; always carrying the death of Jesus everywhere in the body, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.” (2 Corinthians 4:7-10)

We have been created to be molded in the image and likeness of Christ and that is why many times we have to go through tests that allow us to fully see our faith. As humans we can falter, feel defeated, sad and devastated.

But if we pray with our hearts and humble ourselves before our God, he will listen to us and comfort our souls, he will give us strength like those of the buffalo to overcome our spiritual battles and move towards the admirable light that is Christ.

3.- My profession does not define my relationship with God

We have to keep in mind that God is above all our Father and although it seems something very simple it can change our vision, because our achievements and failures do not define us, but our identity has already been defined by God and that is why we are called to be your children and we have a purpose on this earth.

That purpose is, among other things, to proclaim the word of God, glorify him, exalt him, praise him, adore him at all times, at every moment, with our hearts, allowing him to give us the necessary encouragement to endure adversities and preparing us for the second we come caught up and taken to the New Jerusalem.

In this regard, his word shows us the following: “The rain came down, and the rivers came, and the winds blew, and beat against that house; and it did not fall, because it was founded on the rock.” (Matthew 7:25)

In this way, when speaking of true identity as children of God, it refers to knowing who we really are, knowing that we are called to the admirable light of Christ. My identity is related to my direct and personal relationship with my Heavenly Father, who opens the doors for me that others want to close, who gives me the strength to keep going, who sustains my soul and who provides me with everything I need.

So what I am is the only thing that should matter to me in life, and not what the world wants to tell me, since we will find many temptations, false prophets, false teachings that try to entangle and mislead the children of God. But he gives us the discernment to understand which is the right path, that narrow path but full of the presence of the Lord:

“Enter through the narrow gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter through it; For narrow is the gate, and narrow the road that leads to life, and few are the ones who find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14)

In the word we can find different verses that will show us our identity as children of God, and the call we have to do the will of our Father and obey him at all times, in order to obtain the gift of salvation. Here I show you the most relevant verses:

In this sense, my identity as the Son of God leads me along the paths of justice and peace, identifies me and makes me participate in the works of Christ on earth through the gifts attributed to me.

So it is a privilege to have this gift of being a child of the Lord, even without deserving it. That is why we must appreciate it and take care of our salvation, proclaiming the good news of our God, Jehovah of hosts.
