As for the gift of science, also called “knowledge” refers to the supernatural revelation of past, present or future events without interference from the natural mind. In relation to the gift of wisdom, it is the application of that knowledge or science acquired directly by the Holy Spirit.
Meaning of the gift of knowledge and wisdom according to the Bible
The Bible refers to the “word” of science and knowledge, and the “word” of wisdom. In such terms, the “word” comes from Greece and refers to “logos”, which means “word”, “argument” or “purpose” and is not limited to the spoken word. For this reason, whether we obtain the gift of audible knowledge and wisdom or not, they continue to be gifts and do not have to be vocal gifts.
The gift of knowledge can be described as the mind of Christ revealed or given to the mind of the believer, and is given at any time, as revealed by the word of God in 1 Corinthians 2:1. “So, brothers, when I came to you to announce the testimony of God, I did not go with excellence of words or wisdom.”
This gift of science or knowledge is used This gift is used in order to protect faithful believers, to teach them the correct way to pray or to communicate with Our Heavenly Father. In this way, prayer will be greater and will allow us to help others.
For its part, where wisdom, as stated above, is the putting into practice of knowledge or science. It is when the believer knows how to properly use the knowledge or science acquired by God.
In this sense, the gift of wisdom allows us to apply knowledge in a supernatural way, and this knowledge is the information provided. Usually the gift of wisdom and the gift of science are not given together. Therefore, one must be patient to wait for the word of wisdom, and not hastily use all the knowledge that God is revealing to us.
The gift of science is given to us so that it tells us how to do what God has commanded us to do, how to solve problems, the way in which we should approach different situations or the appropriate words to use depending on each case in particular.
In this way, the gift of science and wisdom can manifest itself due to a sudden inspiration that comes from the depths of our spirit, or also due to the interpretation of a dream, to the visions we have, parables.
Vocal gifts can also be attributed to us directly from the Holy Spirit and in particular cases we can even hear the voice of God audibly or through the presence of an angel.
How is the gift of knowledge manifested?
The one where science or knowledge provides us with information from God naturally and can be manifested in different ways:
1.- Naturally
Knowledge occurs naturally in humans and increases over time. In the book of Daniel 12:4 we can appreciate it: “Many will run from here to there, and science will increase” (Daniel 12:4.) Today we can see that science is increasing and knowledge has progressed considerably, especially in the area of higher mathematics.
Therefore, the use of electronic brains or computers has been necessary, since knowledge has expanded beyond the human mind. However, despite the importance of science in the world, it has generated a lot of pride, preventing them from knowing God.
As the epistle to the Corinthians puts it:“But the natural man does not perceive the things that are of the Spirit of God, because for him they are madness, and he cannot understand them, because they have to be discerned spiritually.” (1 Corinthians 2:14.)
2.- Supernaturally
Supernatural knowledge, which comes from this fallen world represents the natural mind’s attempt to acquire information through supernatural means other than that which comes from the Holy Spirit. This includes the psychic, the occult, the psychic, and the “metaphysical” investigations that Satan currently uses to deceive people.
These misnamed religious experiences include the presence, many times of cults, drugs, diabolical pacts, mysterious phenomena, among others, where the salvation of those who fall into these enemy traps is endangered.
In this sense, this type of knowledge does not come from the Holy Spirit, but from Satan directly. Therefore, believers must stay away from this type of acts not endorsed by the word of God, which is the revealed truth.
3.- Through Jesus Christ
True intellectual knowledge is that which we acquire when we know God personally, through Our Lord Jesus Christ, as the word exposes: “And this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” (John 17:3)
We are currently before the knowledge of the world, where science advances progressively. However, it is extraordinary to know that knowledge of the Lord is increasing in the same way, where every creature will know that the way, the truth and the life is Christ and that no one will go to the Father except through him, who made the perfect sacrifice for free us from the ties of sin and give us freedom and grant us spiritual gifts, as well as the gift of science and wisdom.

In this regard, the word of God tells us that “. . . the earth will be filled with the knowledge of Jehovah as the waters cover the sea.” (Isaiah 11:9.). In this way there are many things of the Word that will be revealed in the last times, where we are living the moment of Grace and Forgiveness. But we must understand that the knowledge of man is limited, it is not eternal, but the knowledge of the Lord remains forever.
4.- Through the word
The word of knowledge does not refer to a psychic manifestation or phenomenon, nor to an extrasensory perception such as telepathy, clairvoyance or precognition, since these practices are prohibited in the word, as we can see in the word: “Thus Saul died for his transgression with which he transgressed against the Lord, against the word of the Lord, which he did not keep, and because he consulted a fortune teller”(1 Chronicles 10:13)
So as believers we should not participate in these practices so as not to open the doors to the enemy, since all these activities are bad and dangerous. If we experiment with these psychic phenomena we are playing with the fallen powers of this world that are directly controlled by Satan.
In this world there are two types of spiritual power: God and Satan. So just because something is “supernatural” doesn’t mean it’s good or from God.
How is the gift of wisdom manifested?
The gift of wisdom refers to the application of the knowledge acquired by God in a supernatural way and this is manifested in different ways:
1.- Natural human wisdom
It has to do with natural knowledge being applied. Certainly this type of wisdom is constantly growing, but this knowledge is useless if wisdom is not present. However, this is ephemeral, limited and imperfect.
But the wisdom that comes from above is eternal. The word of God exhorts us to seek wisdom from the Lord: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will destroy the understanding of the prudent.” (1 Corinthians 1:19.)
2.- True intellectual wisdom
In the book of Proverbs, as well as in the Wisdom of Solomon, we can find examples of intellectual wisdom, and this is acquired when the Lord and his word are respected, and when the teachings imparted by Christ in each one of them are studied in depth. his gospels, where samples of the wisdom that comes from the Most High are given. This is revealed in the bible: “And if any of you lacks wisdom, ask God, who gives abundantly to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” —James 1:5.
3.- Through the word
The gift of the word of wisdom is supernatural and consists of suddenly and miraculously receiving the wisdom that we require to face a certain situation or answer any question. This word of wisdom comes solely from God.
In the Bible we can find different examples of biblical people who had the gift of wisdom and applied it in each of the adverse situations that arose. Such is the case of Daniel, who was a very wise man with a lot of knowledge, and for this reason God chose him to teach in the king’s palace. But, far superior to this was the “word of wisdom” that God provided him, in this way he was able to interpret the dream that Nebuchadnezzar had.
All these secrets were revealed to Daniel in “night vision”, where Daniel said: “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, for his are power and wisdom…give wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the prudent. He reveals the deep and the hidden…” (Daniel 2:20-22) For this reason the king appointed him governor-general of Babylon, whose authority was over the other governors.
In addition, it can be seen in the chapter of the book of Daniel that he interprets Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, but this time he announces that his kingdom would be taken from him. Later, under the reign of Belshazzar, he was assigned to interpret the writing on the wall. These gifts attributed by God saved the life of this Biblical character and his companions on several occasions.
On the other hand we find Our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the greatest example of what the word of wisdom means, since he is the word itself. But Jesus had to go through many difficult circumstances, and at all times he manifested words of wisdom from the Most High.
For this reason, the main priests and the elders of the town asked him questions related to the authority that he used to make very firm remarks, always telling the absolute truth, and for this reason he was questioned. But he always answered in the form of a question, dictated by a word full of wisdom, as revealed in the word:
“When he came to the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him while he was teaching, and said to him: By what authority do you do these things? and who gave you this authority? Responding Jesus, he said to them: I also will ask you a question, and if you answer it, I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. John’s baptism, where was he from? From heaven or from men?” (Matthew 21:23-27.)
