.

How to use and what are the gifts of the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:8-10.

.
The gifts of the Holy Spirit or spiritual gifts are specific, diverse and supernatural manifestations for the benefit of the body of Christ and to develop effective evangelism. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are imparted for the blessing of the church. Let’s look at this important study on spiritual gifts next.

The study on the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the Bible is a very important topic for the church of the Lord Jesus Christ today; Therefore, the gifts of the Spirit of God are the equipment or training granted by God to his children so that they can do their work in power and anointing.

This study on spiritual gifts seeks to expose each of the spiritual gifts in the life of the Christian. Knowing the gifts of the Holy Spirit and their meaning is part of the revelation that the Lord wants us to have and use in our lives.

(Study on the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the Bible. The gifts of the Spirit of God or study on spiritual gifts).

Trying to study in a simpler way the gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to the First Letter to the Corinthians, chapter twelve, they have been divided into three groups, according to their function and nature:

Gifts of power (these are: faith, miracles and healings).

Expressive gifts (these are: prophecy, various kinds of tongues, and the interpretation of tongues).

Revelation gifts (these are: discerning of spirits, word of knowledge and word of wisdom).

The gifts of the Holy Spirit of God:

The word of God clearly shows us and teaches us the gifts of the Holy Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 “For to him is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another, word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another, faith by the same Spirit; and to another, gifts of healings by the same Spirit. To another, the working of miracles; to another, prophecy; to another, discernment of spirits; to another, various kinds of tongues; and to another, interpretation of tongues.”

In this biblical passage the apostle Paul exposes the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. Let us first take into account the nature and objectives of God in giving his church the gifts of the Spirit of God.

1) Nature of the gifts of the Holy Spirit:

a) As Scripture teaches us, the gift of the Holy is given to each believer individually; the Gift is the Holy Spirit itself, Acts 2:38 “Then Peter said to them: “Repent and be baptized each one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit of God”.

b) Scripture teaches us that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are given to the Church, for the ministry and worship of God.

c) The Bible also teaches us that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are not appropriated by faith, as is salvation.

d) The gifts of the Holy Spirit are granted, by the work of the Spirit of God in his absolute sovereignty, 1 Corinthians 12:11 “But all these things are done by one and the same Spirit, distributing to each one in particular as he wants.”

e) The Holy Spirit operates through the spiritual gifts for mutual benefit in the Body of Christ, consequently they are for public exercise and not private, that is why the Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 12:7 “But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for profit”, that is, for blessing, edification, restoration, etc.

2) The word of God teaches us that the gifts of the Spirit Santo are divided into three groups according to their nature and target:

The revelation gifts: these are Word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge and discerning of spirits.

The gifts of power: these are Faith, Miracles and Healings.

The Inspirational Gifts: These are Prophecy, Kinds of Tongues, and Interpretation of Tongues.

3) The Revelation gifts of the Holy Spirit:

a) Word of Wisdom:
These speak to us of the supernatural revelation by the Holy Spirit, of divine purposes; it is the supernatural declaration of the mind and will of God.

This gift reveals God’s purposes and instructions for men, which come from His knowledge of the future. Example: Matthew 26:34 “Jesus said to him, Truly I tell you, tonight, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.”. By this gift the Lord Jesus reveals the denial of the apostle Peter.
The gift of Word of Wisdom can be manifested through:

Through prophecy.

b) The Word of Knowledge:

This gift, Word of Knowledge is a revelation of past or present events, outside of our natural knowledge. This gift manifests itself to reveal events from the past to the present time.

The Bible shows us a clear example of this we find it in John 4:16-18 when the Lord tells the Samaritan woman that she has had five husbands and the one she lived with was not hers, John 4:17-19

The woman answered and said: I have no husband. Jesus said to her: You have said well: I have no husband; because you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband; You have said this truthfully. The woman said to him, Lord, it seems to me that you are a prophet.”. Here we see the gift in exercise.

c) Discernment of spirits:
This gift of discernment of spirits gives us supernatural understanding, in the realm of spirits, revealing the origin of the spirit that operates in a person. This gift operates entirely in a supernatural way and the things it reveals are from the real spiritual world around us.

The apostle Paul discerned in the spirit using this gift, the origin and nature of the spirit that operated in Elymas, Acts 13:9-10

Then Saul, also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looking at him, said: “You son of the devil, who are full of all deceit and fraud, enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight paths of the Lord?”. This is the gift of discernment of spirits in exercise.
4) THE POWER GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT:
a) The gift of Faith: It is very important to make a difference between the kinds of faith,
1) The faith that every human being has by nature (even unbelievers).
2) Faith in gods or idols.
3) Faith in Christ who saves.
4) Faith in the promises of God.
5) Faith as a supernatural Gift of the Holy Spirit.

The Gift of Faith is given by God, in a supernatural way by the operability of the Holy Spirit, it is a faith in what seems impossible, through this gift we will see the supernaturalities of God working powerfully.

Stephen, Acts 6:8 “Stephen, full of grace and power, did great wonders and signs (miracles) among the people”.

Some Bibles translate that Stephen was full of grace and power, but in the original Greek the word used instead of grace is faith (from the Greek “pistis”), which teaches us that Stephen was full of faith and power, and it was through the gift of faith that he did great wonders and signs within the people.

b) The gift of performing miracles by the Holy Spirit:
Through this gift of the Holy Spirit the supernatural power of God is shown in us, according to Acts 2:22 “Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man confirmed by God among you with miracles, wonders and signs that God did in your midst through him, just as you yourselves know” in three ways: with Wonders, Prodigies and Signs, which bring with them a certification from God.
For example Matthew 14:25 “At the fourth watch of the night (3 to 6 am), Jesus came to them walking on the sea”. A miracle breaks the laws established by nature); another example is the conversion of water into wine,

John 2:9 “When the steward tasted the water made wine, not knowing where it came from, although the servants who had drawn the water knew, he called the husband.”
c) Gifts of healing by the Holy Spirit:
This gift of the Holy Spirit is for the clear and specific purpose of bringing bodily healing and we see it repeatedly throughout the four gospels and the book of the Acts of the Apostles.
When we read in the Bible, 1 Corinthians 12:9 tells us: “to another, faith by the same Spirit; to another, gifts of healing by the one Spirit“We find gifts that have a plurality of names, that is why we can say that there are several Gifts of Healing and not a single Gift as in the case of the other Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
A Christian who receives the manifestation of God in one or more of these Gifts, can be used by God in the Healing of certain diseases but not always in all.

5) THE GIFTS OF INSPIRATION (EXPRESSION) OF THE HOLY SPIRIT:

When we study the gift of Prophecy, the difference between the Gift itself and the ministry of the prophet must be clearly distinguished, which in the Scripture appear well differentiated and with their own functions and scenarios.

1) The gift of prophecy should not be confused with the Old Testament prophets.
2) This gift of the Holy Spirit is new and particular to the New Testament given to the church for its edification.
3) Preaching should not be confused with prophecy, since the supernatural nature of the prophetic gift is removed (preaching proclaims, exposes the Scripture, prophecy says what God is saying).
4) Preaching is inspired by the Holy Spirit, prophecy is supernatural.
5) Anyone can possess the Gift of prophecy and be used by the Lord, but this does not mean that they truly fulfill the ministry of Prophet, example: Acts 21:8-11
The next day we left and arrived at Caesarea, and entering the house of Philip, the evangelist, who was one of the seven (deacons), we stayed with him. He had four virgin daughters who prophesied. And staying there several days, a certain prophet named Agabus came down from Judea, who came to see us, and taking Paul’s girdle, bound his hands and feet, and said, “Thus says the Holy Spirit: ‘Thus shall the Jews in Jerusalem bind the owner of this girdle, and deliver him into the hands of the gentiles”.
As we can see in this text, some differences stand out: God reveals that there is greater authority and strength in the office than in the gift. The writer of Acts (Luke) tells us that they “prophesied” (they could do so because of the gift) but Agabus was a prophet, this was his ministry (and it is through him that God speaks to the apostle Paul).

To speak to men supernaturally (1 Corinthians 14:3 “But he who…
