You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will be able to see to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

Gospel text Mt 7,1-5 – first take the plank out of your eye

01. «Do not judge, so that you will not be judged.
02. Because with the judgment with which they judge they will be judged, and with the measure with which they measure it will be measured to them.
03. How is it that you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, and do not notice the log in your eye?
04. Or how are you going to say to your brother: “Let me take the blade out of your eye”, having the beam in yours?
05. Hypocrite, first remove the log from your eye, and then you will be able to see to remove the blade from your brother’s eye.

Reflection: Mt 7,1-5

We are very prone to see the flaws and mistakes of others, before noticing our own. Everyone is to blame for what happens, except us. Or, in another way, if everyone were like us, how different the world would be. Very light to judge, reproach and criticize and often hard and offensively. Before speaking we had to bite our tongues, because we rarely get it right, however the poison has already come out of our mouths.

We can apologize all we want and we will even achieve forgiveness, but the words that came out of us can never come back to us or ever be erased. That is why someone recognizes with the utmost certainty that we were created with two ears and one mouth, so that we listen twice as much as we speak, however many times it is the other way around and especially when it comes to talking about others who are not even presents.

Another bad habit of ours is to prejudge others; As soon as we see someone for the first time, we begin to draw conclusions and make good or bad impressions on ourselves, just by appearances. That is why we like jewelry and dresses so much. We want to make a good impression, so that they treat us well. And some of us do not skimp on this goal, working just to pay and wear the latest fashion, be it original or replica, in order to appear the purchasing power or social position that we do not have.

You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will be able to see to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

The Lord asks us here to have a merciful look towards others; that we understand that we all have our contradictions, our mistakes, our chains and limitations. Treat with more charity those who openly manifest these deficiencies, bearing in mind that we also have ours in the eyes of others. Be understanding and seek a positive and redemptive vision, because we can all change and improve.

When the time comes for us to qualify, because we are teachers or out of friendship, do it face to face, face to face, with empathy and emphasizing hope and the ability to overcome and claim that we all have, avoiding sowing discord, or transmitting discouragement or desolation. We can do everything in the Lord, who is the source of eternal life for all, especially for sinners and the sick.

But we must not confuse for any reason being tolerant and understanding with becoming accomplices in situations that are obviously contrary to the Law of God. It’s not about overlooking sin or playing dumb. We must denounce and involve you immediately when injustices are committed, in order to call for reflection and correction, as long as we are witnesses of these sins. We cannot consent to violence, aggression, or injustice against anyone, much less against the weakest.

You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will be able to see to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

However, we must be equally ready to welcome repentance and sincere correction, trusting others, as we would like them to trust us. We cannot forever condemn anyone, questioning their ability to regenerate and amend. Let us keep in mind that with the same rod that we measure, we will be measured.

God has the power to change even what seems impossible to us, therefore let us ask Him for His Mercy and His influence to change these situations and our hearts, trusting that He is capable of doing what no one else can. Let us ask that His Will be done and pray that we all achieve repentance and Redemption for all our sins, including those found guilty by human justice, our enemies – all those who have done us harm – and us in everything we can. waver.

You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will be able to see to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

Let’s pray:

Holy Father, take away from us the easy and frequent temptation to speak ill of others, to judge ourselves different and superior, and to forever condemn those who make mistakes and especially our enemies and circumstantial opponents… We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in unity of the Holy Spirit and is God, for ever and ever… Amen.

We ask you Lord.

(Add your prayers for the intentions you want, so that all of us who pass through here have the opportunity to join your prayers)
