Story of Jesus of Divine Mercy

It is a Catholic devotion started and propagated by the Polish nun Saint Faustina Kowalska, who, through annotations in her personal diary, narrates the mystical conversations she had with Jesus and which she later recounted to her confessor, Blessed Michal Sopocko.

This devotion gained real momentum after the displacement of the Poles by World War II, but received official momentum during the pontificate of John Paul II who in 2000, on April 30, canonized Saint Faustina and proclaimed the feast of the Divine Mercy, to be celebrated every year on the second Sunday of Easter.

There is a representation of the Divine Mercy that shows the vision that Saint Faustina Kowalska had on February 22, 1931. In this image, Jesus is shown radiating light from his Sacred Heart.

Full Chaplet of Divine Mercy

Follow the steps below in order to fully pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet. This prayer was composed by Saint Faustina Kowalska in response to visions she had of Jesus, who revealed himself as Divine Mercy.

Prayer at the beginning

Make the sign of the cross and pray the opening prayer:

“You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth immensely for souls, and the ocean of Mercy opened up throughout the world. O Source of Life, O Infinite Mercy, encompass the entire world and pour yourself out on us”.
O blood and water, which flowed from the heart of Jesus as a source of mercy for us, I trust in you!

Pray the Our Father.

“Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us our daily bread today, and forgive our trespasses, just as we forgive those who offend us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.”

Pray the Hail Mary.

“God save you Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you, blessed are you among all women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and in the hour of our death. Amen.”

Pray the Apostles’ Creed.

I believe in God, the Almighty Father, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ the only Son of our Lord, who was conceived by the work and grace of the Holy Spirit. He was born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under the power of Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried, descended into hell, rose from the dead on the third day, ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father, almighty . From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the flesh and eternal life. Amen.

the five tens

Next, the Eternal Father prays:

“Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the entire world.”

pray”For His sorrowful Passion…” on the tenth small bead of each ten and repeat it on the remaining tens:

“By His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.”

Ending

Pray the Holy God and repeat this prayer 3 times:

“Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.”

Pray the following closing prayer of the rosary of mercy:

“Eternal God, whose mercy is infinite and in whom the treasures of compassion are inexhaustible, look upon us kindly and increase your mercy. In order that in difficult moments we neither despair nor become discouraged, but with the utmost confidence submit to your holy will, which is love and mercy itself.”

End the prayer of the complete mercy chaplet, with the Sign of the Cross.
