sharpeners (ἀφιλάργυρος, G866), No. 2, with a negative prefix. It is translated in 2Ti 3:3 as “not covetous” (KJV: “alien to covetousness”); Heb 13:5 : “without covetousness” (KJV, KJV).¶
Note: Trench, Synonyms ¶ 24, points out the main distinction between pleoxenia and filarguria, being that between greed and avarice, since the former has a much broader and deeper meaning, being “the genus of which filarguria is only the species.” The greedy man is often cruel, while the miser is simply stingy and petty.
