Vine NT Dictionary

Moors (μωρός, G3474), denoting primarily obtuse, slow (from a root mu, to be dumb); hence, stupid, ignorant, senseless. It is used: (a) of persons (Mat 5:22 : “fool”); here the term means morally unworthy, scoundrel; a more serious reproach than “Raca” or “fool” in the previous phrase of the same verse. The latter mocks the mind of a man, calling him stupid; Moors attacks the heart and character of him; hence the Lord condemns him more severely; in Mat 7:26 : “foolish”; Mat 23:17 : “fools”, Mat 23:19 : “fools”; Mat 25:2-3, Mat 25:8 : “foolish”; in 1Co 3:18 : “ignorant.” The apostle Paul uses it of himself and of his collaborators, in 1Co 4:10: “fools”; that is, in the eyes of his adversaries; (b) of things or matters (2Ti 2:23) “foolish and senseless”; likewise in Tit 3:9; in 1Co 1:25 : “the foolishness of God”, did not die, foolishness as a personal quality (see A, No. 3), but adjectivally, that which is considered by the ignorant as a senseless, senseless way of doing things; likewise in 1Co 1:27 : “the foolishness of the world.”¶

Moors (μωρός, G3474), see FOOLISH under FOOLISHNESS, B, No. 5. Translated “fool” in Mat 23:19 (TR); 1Co 1:27; 2Ti 2:23 (plural); Tit 3:9. See also IGNORANT.

Moors (μωρός, G3474), foolish. It is translated “ignorant” in 1Co 3:18. See FOOLISH; see also INDOCTED.
