The Greek term mone, equivalent to m. or mansions is used by the Lord in Jua 14:2 (“In my Father’s house are many m. … I am going to prepare a place for you† ) and in Jua 14:23 (“He who loves me, my word he will keep; and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our abode with him. This word has been the subject of many interpretations, but most scholars take it as an allusion to Christ’s work of salvation for human beings, which includes a glorious existence in heaven.

(gr. monai, Vg. mansions, vp “places”, °nbe chambers”, °bj “mansions”). This idiomatic expression used by our Lord in Jn. 14.2 has given rise to various theories (eg BF Westcott, The Gospel according to St John, 2, 1908, pp. 167). Most scholars agree that its meaning is that the Father will provide a place, and plenty of it, in the eternal abode.
