ABIMAEL – Encyclopedic Dictionary of Bible and Theology

Abimael (Heb. ‘Abîmâ’êl, “God is Father”; the ac. has a similar name: Ili-ma-abi). Descendant of Joktan; hence the name of an Arabian tribe (Gen 10:28; 1Ch 1:22).

(My father is God). Semite. Son of Joktan. He became the head of an Arab tribe (Gen 10: 26-28).

Descendant of Shem through Arpaksad. Her father was Joqtan, whose brother, Peleg, was an ancestor of Abraham. (Ge 10:28; 1Ch 1: 17-27) It is likely that Abimael and his twelve brothers were the progenitors of thirteen different Arab tribes that settled in the Arabian peninsula.
