8 Keys to Know God’s Will for Your Life

If you are one of the Christians who continually struggles with the knowledge of God’s will for your life. So it is good that you read this post to get to know her and make her part of your life. Many Christians, even after years in the gospel, still struggle with doing God’s will in their lives.

Then, How can we know God’s plan for our lives? Here are 8 keys to knowing God’s will.

1) Walking with God

You need to develop a relationship with Him. Being a Christian is about relationship, not religion. So you must cultivate your relationship with God. Seek him to know him and learn about him.

As you seek these disciplines in your life, God will begin the first steps in revealing His plan to you.

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”

2) Surrender your will to God’s.

A lot of times when we say we’re seeking God’s will, what we really mean to say to God is, “Okay, God, this is what I’m planning to do. Now I need you to seal this, okay?” I must tell you that this is not really effective in finding his true will.

Before God begins to reveal his will to you, you must commit to doing whatever He wants you to do. God will probably be slow to show you his plan if he knows you might not follow through on that plan anyway.

Romans 12:1-2 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed through the renewal of your understanding, so that you may verify what is the good will of God, acceptable and perfect”.

Jesus was willing to die for us, so shouldn’t we be willing to live for Him? When we surrender to him, that’s when he really begins to direct our steps.

3) Obey what you already know to be God’s will.

Many people seem to want to know what the God’s plan for their lives, but they overlook the fact that 98% of his will is already carefully outlined through his Word. God is very clear about many aspects of his will.

Romans 12:2 “And do not adapt yourselves to this world, but transform yourselves by renewing your mind, so that you may verify what is the will of God: what is good, acceptable and perfect.”

If we don’t obey the things that God has clearly shown us are his will, why would we think he would reveal more information about his plan for our lives? Obedience is an extremely important step.

4) Seek the entrance of God.

A key component to find God’s will in your life is to seek the contribution of leading counselors of the congregation or mature people. Also addressing the authorities, such as pastors is one way.

Think of it this way: you should understand that you are basically a composite of the five people you spend the most time with. So, then, it is vital that you choose those five people well. If you choose to surround yourself with leaders, they will be instrumental in help you discern God’s plan for your life. But if you surround yourself with people who are far from God, your hope of finding the best for your life will be greatly diminished.

Proverbs 11:14 “Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.”

The church is designed to help you greatly with this. I would encourage you to be in church every time the doors open. The more you get involved with a community of believers, the better your chances of finding leading men and women who can help you discern God’s will for your life.

5) Pay attention to how God has connected you.

God has created you to fulfill a specific role in this world. There is no one else who can fully accomplish what God has purposed you to do.

The apostle Peter gives us this admonition:

1 Peter 4:10 “As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of God’s multiple grace.”

God has given each of us the gift of carrying out a special mission for which only we were created. Isn’t it amazing?

So when you seek to discover God’s will for your life, pay attention to how he has given you. His plan for you will always be directly related to the gifts He has given you. The great news is that you will automatically be good at whatever He has called you to do.

6) Listen to the Spirit of God.

We must completely change the way we approach God through prayer. We have to add a significant component to our prayer life and that is listening. In order to listen to Spirit from God we must learn to be silent after to pray to him. Even when you approach God with an attitude of surrender and just to listen to him that is where you can experience hear his voice

Listening to what God has to tell us takes time; but if we practice it you can achieve it.

God will begin to flood your heart with ideas and information regarding his will for your life. He longs for those experiences.

John 8:27 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”

7) Listen to your heart.

In addition to listening to the Holy Spirit, I also recommend listening to your heart. To understand this point, consider the following passage:

Psalms 37:4-5 “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in him, and he will do it.”

This passage shows us that when we are walking with the Lord, He will let you do many things that you really love to do! When you are close to him, he really begins to shape your desires, so that you want the things he has already called you to do.

So his plan really turns into a super exciting adventure for you. You will always have fun doing God’s will. And that’s because He shapes your “wish” of wanting to do the things for which He created you.

8) Take a look at your circumstances.

God often clearly demonstrates his plan for our lives by aligning circumstances in obvious ways. And he also shows us that his will is not that we do things the same way. But that you change the bad course of our life.

It is not his will that you take the job that is not offered to you. If you’re 5’6″ and 125 pounds, it’s not likely that God created you to play professional soccer.

God is very good at opening and closing doors. He even did it for the apostle Paul and his work in the Acts. Take a look at this passage:

Acts 16:6-10 “After they passed through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, the Holy Spirit forbade them to preach the word in Asia. After they reached Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit did not allow them. And passing through Mysia, they went down to Troas. And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A Macedonian stood up and said to him, “Come to Macedonia and help us.” After he saw the vision, we immediately tried to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them.”

So even Paul had to face closed doors in his ministry. God often uses closed doors to clearly show us what He does NOT want us to do. And he also uses open doors at times to show us what He DOES want us to do. Of course, this doesn’t mean that every open door is definitely God’s plan, but it does help give you some basic direction.

Start to reflect about God’s plan for your lifeand encourage yourself to practice these 8 keys to know God’s will for your life. Using word principles to help you hone in on your plan. And when you earnestly seek his will, you will find it. Blessings…
