Truly I tell you that you already have your reward. Jesus here teaches that we should be discreet in giving, and not flaunt our good works. However, many times we find ourselves in situations where we cannot help but make noise when giving. Is it okay to make noise when we give alms?

So what does this mean for us? Jesus is saying that we must be humble in our acts of kindness. We should not seek the reward of others, but the reward of God. We must do good because it is God’s will, not because we expect something in return.

That your right hand does not know what your left hand is doing?
Jesus said: “You, for your part, when you give alms, let your left hand not know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may remain in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you” (Matthew 6:3-4).
The left hand represents the hidden side of our nature, that of which we are not aware. Jesus teaches us that we should do good naturally, without seeking reward or recognition. We must be humble and let our good deeds speak for themselves.
When we sincerely and selflessly do good, our heavenly Father will reward us abundantly. We must have faith and trust that he knows what we need, and that he will give us everything we need to live a full and happy life.
The Bible teaches us that we should do good without expecting anything in return. We must be generous and give of our time and talents without expecting anything in return. God will bless us if we are faithful to this commandment and will give us the favor of it.
