After Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed, Lot and his two daughters went to live in a cave. They isolated themselves from other people. Her story continues in Genesis 19: 31-36 (NLT): “One day the older daughter said to her sister, ‘There are no more men left. anywhere in this whole area, so we can’t get married like everyone else. And our father will soon be too old to have children. Come, let’s get him drunk with wine, and then we’ll have sex with him. Thus we will preserve our family line through our father.’ So that night they got him drunk with wine, and the eldest daughter came in and slept with her father. He didn’t notice that she went to bed or got up again. The next morning, the older daughter told her younger sister: ‘I had sex with our father last night. We’re going to get him drunk on wine again tonight, and you go in and have sex with him. That way we will preserve our family line through our father.’ So that night they made him drunk with wine again, and the youngest daughter came in and slept with him. As before, she didn’t realize that she was going to bed or getting up. As a result, the two daughters of lot became pregnant of his own father.”
Therefore, it was Lot’s daughters’ colluding plans to have sex with their father. They got her father so drunk that he didn’t even realize he had had sex with them. Lot should not have allowed himself to get drunk, but he is not to be blamed for having sexual relations with her daughters.
The Bible records the acts of good and of man. bad decisions. This account does not teach that God approved or blessed these acts of incest. In the Law, God specifically forbids sexual relations between family members. Leviticus 18:6 (NIV), “No one should go near a close relative for sexual intercourse. I am the LORD.”
