Jesus came into this world with a specific mission: to bring God’s message to man. Through his example of love and forgiveness, Jesus showed the world what it means to be a true follower of God. By giving his life on the cross, Jesus revealed the price that God is willing to pay for the salvation of men. This is the mission of Jesus, and it is the same mission that he calls us to follow.
Where does the mission of Jesus begin?
Jesus began his public ministry in the 30th year of our era, after John the Baptist had baptized many people in the Jordan River. John was hailed as the “Lamb of God” who would bear the sin of the world, and Jesus came to him to be baptized. After Jesus was baptized, he heard the voice of God saying to him: “You are my beloved Son; in you I am pleased».
Jesus knew that his mission was to announce the Gospel to all nations, and he began to preach in the country of Galilee. Many people witnessed his miracles, and he taught them to live according to the principles of the Gospel. Jesus called twelve men to be his apostles, and sent them out to preach the Gospel everywhere. Then, Jesus ascended into heaven, where he is seated at the right hand of God, and he will be the judge of all men on the last day.
When Jesus begins his mission
Jesus began his public ministry after he was baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. Jesus was about thirty years old when he began his ministry, which lasted about three years. In Matthew 4:17, Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
After Jesus was baptized, he spent forty days in the desert, where he was tempted by Satan. Matthew 4:1-11 tells this story. Jesus was tempted with power, money and prestige, but he resisted all temptations. After forty days, Jesus began his public ministry.
In Matthew 9:35, Jesus went through all the cities and towns of Galilee, teaching in the synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all sickness and disease.
In Matthew 12:1-14, Jesus healed a man on the Sabbath. The Pharisees criticized him, but Jesus told them that the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath. In Matthew 12:15-21, Jesus cast out a demon from a mute man. The Pharisees said that Jesus was possessed, but Jesus told them that they could not speak ill of him because he did good.
In Matthew 13:1-52, Jesus taught the people using parables. Jesus said that parables were “secrets of the kingdom of heaven.” In Matthew 14:1-12, Jesus healed a leper and a man with an unclean spirit. The Pharisees said that Jesus did these things because he was a demoniac.
In Matthew 15:1-20, Jesus criticized the Pharisees and scribes for not teaching God’s truth. In Matthew 15:21-28, Jesus healed a Canaanite woman. The Pharisees said that Jesus was possessed, but Jesus told them that he was the Son of God.
In Matthew 16:1-4, the Pharisees and Sadducees wanted Jesus to show them a miraculous sign. Jesus did not show them any signs, and told them that miraculous signs could not be trusted. In Matthew 16:5-12, Jesus taught his disciples that they should trust in God, not in man.
In Matthew 17:1-13, Jesus went up Mount Sinai, where he met Moses and Elijah. The three talked about the death of Jesus, which was to take place in Jerusalem. In Matthew 18:1-35, Jesus taught his disciples about the importance of humility and forgiveness.
In Matthew 19:1-12, Jesus taught about marriage and divorce. In Matthew 19:13-15, Jesus said that children were the example of innocence. The Pharisees said that Jesus was possessed, but Jesus told them that he was the Son of God.

In Matthew 27:1-66, Jesus was sentenced to death. Jesus was crucified, and died on the cross. In Matthew 28:1-20, Jesus rose from the dead. Jesus appeared to his disciples, and told them to preach the gospel to all nations.
What is the mission that God entrusted to the human being?
God created the human being in his image and likeness, and put him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and care for it. He entrusted the human being with the mission of obeying his commandments, of being faithful to him and of living in harmony with his own nature and with all creation.
From the beginning, God wanted the human being to be free and have dominion over the earth. But sin buried the freedom of the human being and subjected him to the slavery of evil. In Christ, God freed the human being from his sin and gave him again the possibility to live a life of full freedom and dominate the earth.
The mission that God entrusted to human beings is, therefore, to live a free and full life, in accordance with their nature and vocation. It is a mission that demands obedience to God’s commandments and love for him above all things. It is a mission that also requires love of neighbor, solidarity and justice.
What was God’s purpose in sending his son?

Jesus invites us to open our hearts to his love and to become his followers, so that we can live full and abundant lives.
