The return of Jesus will be glorious! It will be a day of great joy for all of us who love Jesus because we will go with him to heaven. But it will also be a day of judgment for those who have rejected Jesus. The earth will be undone and all sin will be destroyed. ¡Jesus will make all things new!
No one knows when Jesus will return. The truth is that it can happen at any time. When we see the signs of the times that the Word of God mentions (wars, natural disasters, false prophets…) we must remember that the return of Jesus is near. We do not want to be taken by surprise and therein lies the importance of living correctly, always pleasing and obeying God.
The return of Jesus in the Bible
The Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then those of us who are alive, those of us who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
And just as it is established that human beings die only once, and then the judgment comes, Christ was also offered as a sacrifice only once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, no longer to bear any sin, but to bring salvation to those who wait for him.
For just as the lightning that comes from the east is seen even in the west, so will the coming of the Son of man be.
The sign of the Son of man will appear in the sky, and all the races of the earth will be anguished. They will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
But as for the day and hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. The coming of the Son of man will be as in Noah’s time. For in the days before the flood they ate and drank and married and gave in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing of what would happen until the flood came and washed them all away. So it will be at the coming of the Son of man.

But as for the day and hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
Therefore, stay awake, because you do not know what day your Lord will come. But get this: If a homeowner knew what time of night a burglar was coming, he would stay awake so he wouldn’t let him break in. That is why you must also be prepared, because the Son of man will come when you least expect it.
Now then, brothers, regarding the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our reunion with him, we ask you not to lose your head or be alarmed by certain prophecies, or by oral or written messages supposedly from us, that you say: «It has come! the day of the Lord!” Do not be deceived in any way, because first the rebellion against God has to come and the man of evil, the destroyer by nature, must manifest. He opposes and rises up against everything that bears the name of God or is worshiped, to the point of taking over the temple of God and pretending to be God.
Now, brothers, you do not need to be written about times and dates, because you already know that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. When they are saying: “Peace and security”, destruction will come upon them suddenly, as the pains of childbirth come to a pregnant woman. There is no way they can escape.
But in those days, after that tribulation, “the sun will be darkened and the moon will shine no more; the stars will fall from the sky and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.” Then they will see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And he will send his angels to gather the elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.
Then I saw the sky open, and a white horse appeared. His rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he pronounces sentence and wages war. His eyes shine like flames of fire, and many diadems gird his head. He has a name written on him that no one knows but him alone. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is “the Word of God.” He is followed by the armies of heaven, mounted on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword, with which he will smite the nations. He “he will rule Them with an iron fist.” He himself squeezes grapes in the winepress of the fury of punishment that comes from God Almighty. On his cloak and on his thigh is written this name: King of kings and Lord of lords.
Apocalypse, the revelation about the end of the world
When the Son of man comes in his glory, with all his angels, he will sit on his glorious throne. All nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep to the right of him, and the goats to the left of him.
If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
But understand this: If a homeowner knew what time the thief was going to arrive, he would be vigilant so as not to let him break in. Likewise, you must be prepared, because the Son of man will come when you least expect it.
There will be signs in the sun, moon, and stars. On earth, the nations will be distressed and perplexed by the roaring and churning of the sea. Men will faint with terror, fearful of what is going to happen to the world, because the heavenly bodies will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to happen, take courage and lift your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.
But do not forget, dear brothers, that for the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like a day. The Lord does not delay in fulfilling his promise, as some understand the delay. Rather, he is patient with you, because he does not want anyone to perish, but that everyone should repent.
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. On that day the heavens will disappear with an awful roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth, with everything in it, will be burned.
Since everything will be destroyed in this way, shouldn’t you live as God intended, following blameless conduct and eagerly awaiting the coming of God’s day? On that day the heavens will be destroyed by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat of the flames. But, according to his promise, we look forward to a new heaven and a new earth, in which justice dwells.
In truth, God has manifested his grace to all humanity, which brings salvation and teaches us to reject impiety and worldly passions. Thus we will be able to live in this world with justice, mercy and self-control, while we await the blessed hope, that is, the glorious coming of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.
Look what’s coming in the clouds! And everyone will see it with their own eyes, even those who pierced it; and for him all the peoples of the earth will mourn. So shall! Amen.
