sfazo or sfatto (sfavttw, 4969), to immolate, used especially of victims offered in sacrifice (related to sfage; see SLAUGHTER). It is used: (a) of taking human life (1 Joh 3:12, twice: “killed”; Rev 6:4 “killed”, v. 9: “who had been killed”; in 13.3, probably of murder : “deadly wound”; 18.24: “who have been killed”); (b) of Christ, as the slain Lamb (Rev 5:6, 12; 13.8).
