The winds and the sea obey Jesus – Biblical Meaning

Even the winds and the sea obey him!

Matthew 8:26, 27 “But he said to them, “Why are you fearful, you of little faith? So he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea. And there was a great calm. And the men marveled, saying: “Who is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?”

I like the words, “men marveled.” 8221;! Jesus is a wonderful God indeed! Wow, imagine how the disciples would have felt when the raging sea stopped, fell silent and the wind died down! The Bible says “there was a great calm”. Today if you are going through a crisis in your life, this message is for you. The Bible says “suddenly a great storm arose…”. And that’s how the storms of life come, isn’t it? One minute the sun shines, the next lightning flashes, thunder rumbles, and the winds and waves turn wild. The phone rings and in seconds your life changes, you are in the middle of a storm. Doctor visits, job search becomes routine, you are in a terrible storm! When your boss calls you into the office, or when you open that health report, sudden and violent storms arise, and without warning.

During one of my ministry trips to a town I experienced in an amazing way the miraculous hand of God. We had to travel almost five hours by road to reach the town and we had left our house at 4 in the morning early. On that day, while we were traveling to the village, it suddenly started to rain heavily. We continually received phone calls from the pastors who were organizing the meeting because the meeting place was wet due to the rains and even the roof of the meeting hall was leaking. We continue to encourage you to keep praying and doing your best. We couldn’t change the meeting place because we had no other choice. Finally, when we arrived at the meeting place, the entire surrounding area was wet, muddy and still raining. Somehow we struggled to get into the place. We were surprised to see that the hall did not have a concrete roof, but a thick temporary roofing material had been put in place that could not withstand the rain and was leaking in many places. The organizers did not expect rain that day because it was summer season. The floor was wet, the mats were wet and sodden, the chairs were all soaked with water. We were wondering what to do! But I must tell you something here, in the middle of the rain, the people had come for the meeting and none of them had left the place. The organizers started the service and we continue to look to God for a miracle. The microphone was given to my husband and as we all continued to worship him, God performed a miracle. He reached out his Hand and stopped the rain! The clouds cleared, the sun’s rays hit the roof, the floor dried, new mats were laid, and before long, there was no trace of the previous rain. Incredible indeed! Amazing are his works! God stopped the rain and changed the circumstances! Glory to Jesus!

The storms of life will either bring you closer to the Lord or drive you further away. And you?
