From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible mentions seven curses that God pronounced on humanity. These curses are: curse of the fruit of the ground, curse of beasts, curse of Cain, curse of languages, curse of sterility, curse of violence and curse of death.

What is the curse of God

What is cursing a person

The Bible teaches us that it is very important to watch our words. Matthew 12:36-37 says:
«But I tell you that every idle word that men speak, they will give an account of it on the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
This means that we must be careful what we say, because our words can have consequences. God tells us that we must speak wisely, and not use our tongue to speak in a reviling way.
Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and whoever loves it will eat its fruit.”
This teaches us that our words can be very powerful. They can build other people up, or they can destroy them. We must use our words to build others up, not tear them down.
What does Deuteronomy 28 tell us?
“And if you diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, to observe and to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will also set a high place above all the nations of the earth. And all this blessing will come upon you, and you will achieve to have it, if you listen diligently to the voice of Jehovah your God.
“The Lord will make you the head, and not the tail; you will always be above, and never below, if you follow the commandments of Jehovah your God that I command you today, so that you keep and fulfill them.
“You shall not turn from all the words that I command you today, neither to the right nor to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
“But if you do not listen to the voice of the Lord your God, to observe all his commandments and his statutes that I command you today, then all these curses will come upon you, and you will have them.
“Jehovah will send you captivity, to the end of the world, in distant lands, and there you will serve other gods, the wood and the stone that cannot see or hear, eat or smell.
“And from there the Lord your God will seek you, and will find you, if you go to seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.
“When you are in trouble, and all these words have come upon you, at the end of days, you will turn to the Lord your God, and you will hear his voice.
“Because Jehovah your God is merciful, he will not leave you or destroy you or forget the covenant he made with your ancestors, which he swore to them.
“Why will you ask at that time, seeing the works of the Lord your God, his wonders, and his prodigies, and his strong hands, and his outstretched arms, that his face is against you for evil, and not for good?
“If you return to the Lord your God, and hear his voice, according to all that I command you today, you and your children, with all your heart and with all your soul,
“The LORD your God will put this curse on your enemies and on those who hate you and persecute you.
“Today you will hear the voice of the Lord your God, and you will keep his commandments and his statutes that I command you today.
“And the Lord your God will put on your head instead of crowns of gold.
“The LORD will make you reign as king over all that he swore to your ancestors, if you obey the voice of the LORD your God, to keep and to do all his commandments.
“And all the peoples of the earth will be envious of you, because you will reign as king over them, Jehovah your God has confirmed this today.
“And if you will obey the voice of the Lord your God to keep and to do all his commandments that I command you today, according to the law and the right that the Lord your God commanded you, then the Lord your God will put all these blessings on you, to confirm the word he swore to your ancestors.
“He will bless you in the country that the Lord your God gives you, with the fruit of your womb, and with the fruit of your cattle, and with the fruit of your land, which is to pass into your hands.
“The Lord will make you abound in goods, in the fruit of your body, and in the fruit of your livestock, and in the fruit of your land, in the land that the Lord swore to your ancestors to give you.
«The Lord will open his good treasure, the heavens, to send rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hands; and you will lend to many nations, and you will not borrow.
“The LORD will make you the head, and not the tail; and you will be above only, and you will not be below; if you obey the commandments of Jehovah your God that I command you today, so that you keep and fulfill them.
“You shall not turn from all the words that I command you today, neither to the right nor to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
“But if you do not listen to the voice of the Lord your God, to observe all his commandments and his statutes that I command you today, then all these curses will come upon you, and you will have them.
“Cursed shall you be in the city, and cursed shall you be in the country.
“Cursed will be your basket and your hoe trough.
“Cursed shall be the fruit of your womb, and the fruit of your ground, the increase of your herds, and the flocks of your sheep.
“Cursed will be your fields and your vineyards.
“Cursed shall be your crops of the field, and your cattle, the calves of your herds, and the flocks of your sheep.
“Cursed shall you be to enter, and cursed shall you be to go out.
“The Lord will send upon you cursing, disturbing, and deceit, in all the work of your hands that you undertake, until you are destroyed and perish soon, for the misconduct of your evil deeds, for having abandoned me.
“The Lord will make your disease incurable, and he will pour out on you evil and incurable diseases, until you are destroyed.
“The Lord will strike you with consumption, with fever, with inflammation, with burning heat, with the sword, with calamity, and with persecution; and even if you have hidden in the midst of your enemies, you will not be healed.
“The Lord will make the locusts stick to you, until the territory you live in consumes it.
“The Lord will send a famine against you and a famine for bread, and a famine for water will strike you, and he will bring you down before your enemies.
“The Lord will smite you with malignant ulcers that cover your body, from your feet to your head.
“Jehovah will make you go defeated before your enemies; you will go along a path where they did not know you; and he will smite you all over your body with the edge of the sword.
“The Lord will take from you your wife, and your sons, and your daughters, and your male servants, and your female servants, and your oxen, and your donkeys, and your cattle, and will put you into captivity in a land you have not known, neither you nor your ancestors.
«Jehovah will make you serve strange gods, the stick and the stone.
“The Lord will make you rise and fall by day in your own eyes, and your flesh will be consumed before your very eyes.
“The Lord will smite you with sores on your knees and on your thighs, from your head to your feet, until you cannot be healed.
“The Lord will take your husband, and your son, and your daughter, and your maidservant, and your manservant, and your ox, and your donkey, and your cattle, and your farm, and will put you into captivity in a foreign land that you have not known. neither you nor your ancestors.
«And you will be there until you die; and there you will serve strange gods, stick and stone.
“When you have many people among you in the land that the Lord your God gives you to possess it, and you have sons and daughters, and you have many days, and you do not keep the commandments of the Lord
1. Curse of failure: «Cursed be the man who makes idols of molten metal, the work of the hands of an artificer, and melts them down so that they may be objects of hatred; and he will give his body to the beasts to be burned, and he will have to bear the punishment of his iniquity. Thus saith the LORD” (Jeremiah 48:1, 2, 10).
2. Curse of ignorance: “Cursed is the man who does not hold true to the LORD, and does not put his trust in the LORD, nor draw near to his holy one for help” (Jeremiah 17:5).
3. Curse of hardness of heart: «Cursed is the man who makes a sculpture and a molten image, a detestable work of the hands of an artificer, and installs them in secret. And all who bow down before them will be filled with shame” (Deuteronomy 27:15).
4. Curse of rebellion: “Cursed is the man who does not obey the commandments of the LORD his God, and does not keep punctually all his statutes and decrees” (Deuteronomy 11:26, 27).
5. Curse of oppression: “Cursed is the man who oppresses others with violence, and robs them unfairly” (Ecclesiastes 5:8).
6. Curse of violence: “Cursed be the man who sheds innocent blood, and he who uses his mouth to curse an innocent” (James 3:9, 10).
7. Curse of the curse: “Cursed is the man who curses his father or his mother” (Proverbs 30:17).
