You should be on the lookout for significant events and anything out of the ordinary, and be open to communication beyond the physical.
9 Signs of a deceased being
Receiving signs from your deceased loved ones is incredibly comforting and can help you feel a sense of peace and comfort after their death.
If you have ever lost a loved one and want to receive validation from them, ask for a sign… With a calm mind and an open heart, you can receive a sign from them.
1. Visits during your dreams
Dreams are one of the most common ways loved ones in spirit will connect with you.
Have you dreamed about your loved one after their death? Dreams that are especially real, vivid, and meaningful are often direct forms of communication from your deceased loved one. You may feel emotionally affected, comforted, and loved in dreams that are actually real visits from your loved ones in spirit.
Dreams in which your loved ones visit you are very different from normal dreams. Being incredibly vivid and real, when you wake up you will know that you were contacted by your loved one.
Your loved one will likely convey a message and let you know that they are okay. They will appear healthy and vibrant (regardless of their state when they died) and after sharing their love with you and communicating a message to you, the dream will end.
When my grandparents died, they contacted me in this beautiful way… And each time it was very different, but I always had the impression that they were healthy, happy and very well.
2. Strange electrical events
A common way your deceased loved ones will let you know they are nearby is by playing with electricity.
Your loved ones are now pure energy, and they can easily harness this energetic flow to get your attention. For this reason, unexplained electrical events are often common after the death of a loved one.
Your loved ones may try to get your attention by changing channels on the television, making a device act strangely, or they may even make your phone ring out of nowhere.
There are several ways they can do this, such as making the lights flash, turning the TV, radio or lights on or off. They can also cause appliances, phones, gadgets, or children’s toys to beep for no known reason or turn on without being touched. They may even call you on the phone from an unknown number… And then when you answer, there is only static on the other end.
Most of the time, these electrical events are just your loved ones wanting you to know they are with you…
Pay attention. What show is on when the TV mysteriously turns on? What were you thinking when the light flickered? Were you thinking about your loved one?
Your thoughts can offer additional information about your loved one’s message, or even offer confirmation that the flashing lights really is your loved one.
These signs require discretion. Electrical faults are not always your loved ones as we are currently experiencing a large increase in solar energy which can also cause electrical interference.
But… Were you thinking about your loved one when the lights flickered, or maybe you were doing something you used to enjoy together when your TV turned on out of nowhere?
Pay attention to what you were thinking, feeling or experiencing. If there is somehow a connection to your loved one, and there is really no other explanation for the electrical interference, chances are they are with you, working the energy to get your attention.
When my late grandmother turned on the lamp next to my bed, I knew without a doubt that it was her, because she had also appeared in my dream. Other times, the flickering of a light near me has corresponded with her appearing in my thoughts, and this was confirmation of her presence.
3. A familiar scent
Did your loved one wear a certain fragrance, make the best chocolate chip cookies, or enjoy making you a certain type of food?
The smell is a sign that your deceased loved one is communicating with you.
If your late father smoked, and you are sitting on the couch watching a movie, and it smells like smoke even though no one smokes anywhere nearby, this is probably a sign from heaven that your father is with you.
Or maybe you smell your deceased mother’s perfume, or the scent of your grandmothers’ famous chocolate chip cookies when there is no physical evidence as to why this scent would be around. When this happens, you are experiencing a sign from heaven that your loved one is with you.
When you think of your loved one, is there a scent that reminds you of them? For my grandfather, this scent was his cologne. Sometimes I’ve suddenly smelled it, when no one else was around…
To my grandmother, the smell of her face powder makes me think of her every time…reminding me of all our fun times together, and a beautiful, sweet validation that her spirit is still near.
Other scents that your deceased loved one can activate to let you know they are nearby include: something they loved to eat, a floral scent, or really anything else that triggers a beautiful memory of them.
4. Feel their presence
Do you feel like your loved one is taking care of you? That they are still with you and watching over you from the spirit?
Feeling the presence of your dead loved one is one of the main signs that they are really with you and are visiting you beyond the physical.
How could you feel his presence? There are quite a few ways… You can feel a change in the air, feel like they are watching you (in a non-creepy way), or just have a strong sense of their presence that lets you know they are with you.
You may also feel your loved one lying next to you at night, or have the sensation that they are sitting next to you, holding your hand or gently rubbing your back, touching your cheek, or brushing your hair.
If you don’t feel your loved one around you, but would like to… Take time to consciously relax and raise your vibration with meditation, yoga, or simply relaxing by listening to music or just taking time to be calm and breathe.
When your deceased loved one is present, you will be much more likely to notice them with you if you are in a relaxed and elevated state, rather than stressed, anxious or worried.
5. Objects that move or appear in your path
Even beyond the physical, your loved one may move objects to get your attention.
This sign of spirit can take a couple of forms. Or they move objects of yours, such as flipping a picture, moving an item of clothing to a strange place, or making something fall as a way to get your attention.
They can also move objects in your path.
Coins, crystals or stones, feathers, flowers, and keys are common examples of the types of objects that deceased loved ones may move your way.
You may find objects that were meaningful to your loved one, such as seashells (if they loved the beach), paintbrushes (if they were artists), or even screws and nails (if they were builders).
When this happens, say hello and be clear that your loved one is sending you a sign from spirit.
6. Animals and insects
Your deceased loved one is now pure energy… They are able to channel their energy into an insect or animal, for a short period of time to bring you a sign that their spirit lives on.
They may appear this way as a butterfly, dove, rabbit, dragonfly or any other number of insects or animals… When this happens, the animal or insect will usually do something that is out of place and that catches your attention. They may land on your hand, enter your house, or appear up close, right in front of you as if they are communicating.
This is a common type of spirit communication. If something like this happens to you, trust that your loved one is with you and letting you know that they are okay and that you are not alone.
My mother had this experience after her mother died. Her mother had always loved watching and feeding birds, and after her death a bird mysteriously appeared at my mother’s house.
This pigeon, was gently escorted outside… and to this day (about a year later), appears regularly… No longer inside, but near the house, usually in the yard, and is always very interested in my mother and what she is doing. My mother swears that this dove is a sign from her mother, and I agree.
Why would your loved one appear as a bird, rabbit, or insect? Simple. They want to get your attention so they can let you know that they love you, that they are close, and that their spirit lives on, but in a way that won’t cause you unnecessary sadness or fear.
7. They communicate a message…
While your loved one cannot speak to you audibly, because they are now a spiritual being and not a physical being, they can communicate with you telepathically, and may give you a message directly.
Pay attention to the thoughts that occur to you when you are doing something else, as this is a common way your deceased loved one can contact you. Especially if it sounds like something your loved one would say, or brings you a message of love, encouragement, or answers a question in a voice that doesn’t sound like yours.
You may also have a conversation in your mind with your deceased mother, grandmother, or friend. When you ask them a question and then receive a response, there is a good chance that this is actually a message from them…
Another slight variation on this is when a certain song seems to start playing in your mind out of nowhere. Listen to the lyrics to tune in to the spirit’s message. The song may even play on the radio at just the right moment.
Your loved ones can also use other people to convey their messages. You may listen to a bit of someone’s conversation, or someone in your life may inspire you (beyond the physical) with a message of guidance or reassurance that is actually a message from your loved one in spirit. You might even be thinking about your loved one right before you notice a bumper sticker on a car, which brings you a message.
