The concept of sanctification within the Bible refers to “setting aside to consecrate a cause” as well as a purpose, a work or a special objective. It is a term that is particularly used in the Old Testament in this and other ways. However, in almost all the phrases used, the meaning of these would not change if, instead of saying “sanctify”, words such as separate or separate were used. For example, God separates (sanctifies) believers from himself for a holy work.
That said, the term sanctify also includes within its meaning purity and consecration with the Lord.
We will see several examples of consecration that we can find in the Bible in Genesis 2:3, in which God blesses the seventh day, sanctifying it, that is, making this day one consecrated for Him. While in Exodus 9:23 He talks about how the Israelites could not approach Mount Sinai, because the Lord had placed limits on this place through sanctification.
However, we must consider not only what God does for us to sanctify us, but also what he asks for in return. That is, both the Lord and man must fulfill his part. In the same way, it must be understood that sanctification is the work of God alone, so if man tried to do it on his own, even trying for more than 1000 years, he could not.
This means that God will only sanctify those who achieve their objectives, who can do this work that leads to sanctification.
There are two biblical truths, the first of which is that we are sanctified at the moment of conversion. And the other, that sanctification is a consecutive work, and this occurs throughout the Christian’s life, thanks to his spiritual growth.
