God is called Savior (Hos 13:4; Luk 1:47) and is presented as the God of salvation (Psa 68:19-20; Luk 3:6; Act 28:28).

In the OT, salvation refers to both the daily, regular type of deliverance—such as from enemies, diseases, and dangers (see 1Sa 10:24; Psa 72:4)—as well as great deliverances that are specifically interpreted as being a categorical part of God’s unique and special involvement in human history as well as special revelations of his character and will. The supreme example of this is the exodus (Exo 14:13, Exo 14:30-31; Exo 15:1-2, Exo 15:13; Exo 18:8), which included deliverance from slavery in Egypt, the safe journey to the Promised Land and establishment there as a new people in a new relationship with God (Deu 6:21-23; Deu 26:2-10; Deu 33:29).

There are two more aspects to salvation in the OT. First, salvation refers to God’s future action when he will rid Israel of all her enemies and diseases and create a new order of existence (see Isa 49:5-13; Isa 65:17ff; Isa 66:22). -23; Haggai 2:4-9; Zec 2:7-13). Second, this is the hope of the Messiah, who will deliver his people from his sins (Isa 43:11; Isa 52:13; Isa 53:12).

Furthermore, in the OT, when God acts to deliver Israel, he acts in justice, and his act is also one of salvation (Isa 45:21; Isa 46:12-13). God’s future salvation includes a new creation, the remaking and renewing of the old created order (Isa 9:2-7; Isa 11:1-9; Isa 65:17ff.).

In the NT, Jesus is presented as the Savior of sinners (Luk 2:11; Joh 4:42; Act 5:31; Act 13:23; Phi 3:20; 2Pe 1:1, 2Pe 1:11 ; 1Jo 4:14). The title reserved for God in the OT is transferred to Jesus. When a person repented and believed, that person received salvation (Mar 2:5; Luk 7:50; Luk 19:9-10).

Because of the life, death, and exaltation of Jesus, salvation is a present reality. It is deliverance from the dominion of sin and Satan; it is the freedom to love and serve God now (Acts 4:12; 2Co 6:2; Heb 2:3). Salvation is also, however, a future hope (Rom 5:9; 1Pe 1:5; Rev 19:1). See JUSTIFICATION; See KINGDOM OF GOD; See RECONCILIATION; See REDEMPTION.

(health, liberation).

“Salvation” is a very important term in the Bible, where it is mentioned more than 1,000 times, and, like everything wonderful, it has been the reason for many heresies, especially those who insist that it is nothing more than an “act” in the life.

The word “sozein” or “sozo”: (health), and “soteria”: (salvation), are applied to the health of the body and soul, to physical or spiritual salvation, of the individual or the people. It always carries a double meaning: To remove the disease, and to give health; release from defeat, and give victory; blot out sin, and give grace. it is always “freeing from something bad, and giving something good, exactly the opposite, physical or spiritual.

1- In the Old Testament: Salvation is usually material, and implies action on the part of God, and on the part of man.

– God is the Savior: (Exo 15:2, Isa 43:3).

– Man has to have faith in God, and do what God commands him, as seen, above all, in the Exodus, which is the prototype of all Salvation: Liberation from Egypt: God performs the miracles of the “plagues ”. but the Israelites had to smear blood on the lintel of their houses, and then, load up all their property and walk the road to the promised land.

(Ex.12).

At the Red Sea: God could have placed all the Israelites, by a miracle, on the other side of the sea, lifting them up into the air. but he did not do so; what he did was the miracles of parting the waters, and killing the entire Egyptian army. but the men had to cross the Red Sea on foot with their children, farms and cattle between two walls of water, for several weeks, because it was not a river, but a “sea” many kilometers long.

(Ex.14).

God frees from hunger: He sends them the “manna”. and he could have given them “manna” for a week, or a month. but no, the men had to go “every day” to collect the manna, and on the weekend, collect it for two days. always do what God commands, with faith in Him! God gives victory in battle: he performs the miracle of bringing down the walls of Jericho. but the men had to storm the fortress and fight.

(Ex. 16).

To Samson: God gave him extraordinary, miraculous strength. but Samson had to fight the lion and the Philistines with his hands.

(Jud.14).

God gave Gideon the victory: With 300 men from the town, he defeated the great army of 135,000 well-armed warriors. but the 300 had to play the trumpets and the empty pitchers and light the torches: (Jue.6).

David was given victory over the giant Goliath. but David had to throw the stone with his sling: (1 S.17). God saves Naman from leprosy, but Naman had to wash himself 7 times in the Jordan, as God ordered him through his prophet Elisha: (2 R.5). Ace! God saves: The word “sozo” is used for physical, material or spiritual health. and saves from battle, from anguish, from enemies, from violence, from death, from sin.

(Exo 15:2, Ps 34:6, 2Sa 22:3, 2Sa 23:36-38, Ps 106:47, 6:4,- Eze 36:29).

2- In the New Testament: There is still “physical salvation”, from illnesses, from storms. but the emphasis, the core of the Gospel, is “spiritual healing”, liberation from “sin”, because sin is the only true “evil” of the Christian and the pagan. and the same word “sozo”: (health), is still used when there is a physical healing, like the hemorroisa or the leper, or when there is a spiritual healing, like the Samaritan or Zacchaeus: (Mt.9, Mc.l, Jn.2, Lc.19).

Physical salvations, from disease, from hunger, from the storm. they are the “type”, of the true “Salvation”, of sin. this is the great thing about the New Testament, and about Christ, and includes two parts, like all salvation.

1- The negative part: Salvation from sin, from death, from the devil, from Hell.

2- The positive part: “Justification”: (make just, friend of God), “regeneration”: (a new creature), “adoption” as children of God, “sanctification” and “glorification”.

In a word, that Salvation includes all the blessings that we have in Christ for his “Redemption”: They are double: Free us from the death in which we are due to sin, and beget us a “new life”: The life of children of God, already here on earth! it is like when a “drowned” person is saved, he is saved so that he “lives”.

How is this Salvation obtained?

1- On God’s part: Christ is the Savior, who, with his Blood, has already paid for all the sins of all men and women, of all times.

2- On the part of man: It is obtained “free”: By faith in Christ we are declared “just” and “sons of God”, we are “justified”. and, once justified, it does not mean that we are already in Heaven, but rather that we continue on Earth, with a “new life”, to live, proclaiming with our mouths and with our works, the glories of God, that Jesus is the Redeemer: This is what Rom 10:10 says: “With the heart one believes for justification, and with the mouth one confesses for salvation”.

If the one who is justified does not confess Christ-Jesus with his mouth, he will not go to Heaven, Christ himself will deny him before his Father!: (Mat 10:32-33). . Even more, the justified one has the honor, the glory and the responsibility, to “live” on earth as a “prince”, as a “son of God”, doing “good works”, that for that we were made “princes”, as Paul says in Eph 2:8-10. and if a “justified” does not do “good works” his faith is worth nothing, says Paul in 1Co 13: 2. and not only for “nothing”, but it will be the reason to send him to Hell, as Christ himself says in Mat 7:21-27, Mat 25:31-46, Rom 2:5-11.

That is, we justify ourselves, we become “children of God” for free, only by faith. but we go to Heaven, not because we are “children of God”, but because of what we did with the privilege of being so; the same as the “prince”, he is free, just because he is his father’s son, but he is only a “good prince” if he does good things. and we go to Heaven, not because of the gifts that God gave us, but because of what we did with those gifts, because of the “works” we did with the hands that God gave us, and with the Bible and faith that God gave us, “ by works”: (Rom 2:5-11, Mat 25:31-46, 2Co 5:10, Ap.20.

11-15, Matt 16:27, Joh 5:29).

See “Redemption.”

God wants- that we all be saved and that we all go to Heaven, those who were born before Christ, the atheists, the Muslims, the Jews: (1Ti 2:4), and he gives everyone the faith they need, Rom 12:3 .

Jesus is the savior of all: Even Abraham, who was born before Jesus: (Acts 4:12, 1Ti 2:5, Mat 8:11).

The Church continues, in time, the saving mission of Christ, and whoever rejects it, rejects Christ himself, Luc 10:16, Mar 16:16, Mt, Mar 16:19, Mar 18:18, 28:19 – Necessity of Baptism, Confession and the Eucharist, Mar 16:16, Jua 3:5, Jua 6:48-58, Jua 20:23, 1Jn 1:9.

– Need for the “lifelong struggle”: Paul lived the “battle of faith” throughout his life, he tells us in 2Ti 4:7; and so he keeps enslaving his body, lest he end up damning himself, he says in 1Co 9:27.

– Salvation is not something of a moment, but it is the whole life on this earth, which is nothing more than a “trial” period, until death, to show that we love and trust God that we do not see, and therefore that everything that is done without faith, is sin, until the minute of physical death: (Rom 14:23). “Faith” is not only to start “living”, but to “live” every second of the day until the hour of death.

– The Virgin Mary collaborates in salvation: Luc 1:38, J n.2:2-5, 19:25-27. and we all must collaborate in the salvation of our neighbor, above all with our “crosses”, as Saint Paul shouts in Col 1:24.
