History of the Lord of Mercy
It is a Christian devotion promoted by the Catholic Church that focuses on God’s mercy and power. Divine Mercy wants to make us understand that God’s mercy is the price paid for our sins and that if there is complete trust in Jesus, sins will be forgiven.

This devotion was disclosed by the Polish nun Faustina Kowalska through her own diary in which she narrates mystical conversations that she would have had with Jesus Christ.

When the devotion to the Divine Mercy began to spread, an image of Saint Faustina was unveiled in 1931 and Jesus asked that it be painted.
From there three significant images were painted. The first was commissioned by Saint Faustina by Eugenio Kazimirowsky in 1934. The second was commissioned by the Congregation of the Sisters of the Mother of God of Mercy in 1942 and painted by the artist Estanislao Batowski. These first two were consumed by fire during the Warsaw uprising.
After the fire, the painter Adolfo Hyla arrived at the house of the Congregation with the proposal to paint a new painting in gratitude for having been saved from the war. The painter finished the painting in 1943.
