Penina (Heb. Peninnâh, “one with rich hair” or “coral”). One of the 2 wives of Elkanah, Samuel’s father (1Sa 1:2-6).

Elqana’s wife. Unlike Ana, Elqaná’s other wife, Peniná had many children. However, she was not as loved as Hannah, and so she scoffed at her being barren, especially during the family’s annual visits to the tabernacle. (1Sa 1:1-8.)
