Vine branch. Sarmiento. The Lord Jesus used the figures of the vine and p. to emphasize the vital relationship between him and the believer. “I am the vine, you are the vine” (Joh 15:5). Thus, Christ is the vine possessing the sap that gives life to Fr. No branch of the vine can bear fruit apart from it. “Because apart from me you can do nothing.” The figure of the vine is used in the OT to refer to Israel, which is a †œv. chosen† (Jer 2:21) whom God brought out of Egypt (Ps 80:8). So this language was familiar to the hearers of the Lord Jesus.
